Today we’d like to introduce you to Molly Hastings.
Hi Molly, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have always loved photography but, Becoming a mom changed everything… my priorities, my perspective, and surprisingly, my career. Like many new mothers, I found myself constantly reaching for my phone to capture every tiny detail: the way my baby curled his fingers, the quiet moments during feedings, the sleepy smiles. I didn’t want to forget a single second.
What started as a personal desire to document motherhood soon turned into a deeper calling. I realized how fleeting those early moments are… how quickly babies grow and how every stage deserves to be preserved. I picked up my camera with more intention, learning to capture emotion, connection, and the beauty in the chaos of parenthood.
Friends began asking me to photograph their families and newborns. I started offering sessions to other moms, often during nap time or while juggling bottles and editing. My business was born not from a marketing plan, but from a mother’s heart.
Now, I specialize in newborn, family, and motherhood photography, focusing on genuine connection and storytelling. I approach each session with the same tenderness I have for my own family. To me, it’s not just about photos…. it’s about freezing time for other parents the way I wished someone had done for me.
Motherhood gave me a new identity, and through photography, I get to honor that transformation in others every single day.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road to building my photography business hasn’t been smooth, especially balancing it with motherhood. In the early days, I was learning how to care for a newborn and a growing business at the same time. Late-night feedings were followed by early-morning editing sessions. I questioned myself often… was I doing enough for my child, my clients, or myself?
There were technical hurdles too: learning how to price my work, navigating the world of marketing and client communication, and investing in equipment while budgeting for diapers. I also struggled with mom guilt, especially when I had to miss bedtime for golden-hour sessions or spend weekends away shooting.
But every challenge taught me something. I learned to set boundaries, ask for help, and give myself grace. Slowly, I built a business that fit my life… not the other way around.
The hard moments made the wins feel even more meaningful. Seeing a mother cry tears of joy over her newborn gallery, or getting a message saying “You captured us perfectly” … those are the moments that remind me why I started and why I keep going.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about MollyMichelle Photography?
My photography business is centered around family… because that’s where my heart is. I specialize in motherhood, maternity, fresh 48, newborn, and family sessions, offering a relaxed and natural experience that celebrates connection over perfection. My goal is to create images that feel timeless, emotional, and real… the kind of photos you’ll treasure for generations.
What sets me apart is my approach. As a mother myself, I understand the beauty and the chaos of family life. I’m not here to force stiff poses or perfect smiles. I guide families gently, capturing the in-between moments… the way your baby rests on your chest, the giggles between siblings, the hand squeezes and nose kisses. Those are the memories that matter most.
I’m proud that my brand is built on authenticity, warmth, and trust. Clients often tell me they felt seen and cared for during their session, which is the highest compliment I could receive. Whether I’m in your home for a newborn session or at a golden field capturing your family at sunset, I want your experience to feel easy, meaningful, and fun.
I also offer client wardrobe options, styling support, and guidance every step of the way… from booking to gallery delivery. My mission is to serve families with love, patience, and artistry, and to create photographs that reflect the beauty of their story just as it is.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my favorite childhood memories is something simple but incredibly special… my dad stopping by the donut shop every morning before school to get me a donut. It wasn’t just about the sweet treat; it was our little ritual. No matter how busy life got, he always made time for that small gesture. Looking back, it’s those quiet, consistent acts of love that mean the most… and maybe that’s why I’m so passionate now about capturing everyday moments that feel big later.
