Exploring Life & Business with Reena Goodwin of FACTEUR PR

Today we’d like to introduce you to Reena Goodwin.

Hi Reena, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My career story really started when I was a teenager. The internet was just starting to become a thing, and with it the possibility to communicate and storytell in a way that had never really been done before. I went to college to become a journalist but instead ended up with a dream gig in New York City at Columbia Records. Not a bad first big girl job. I got to manage multi-million dollar marketing campaigns for artists like Beyonce, the Jonas Brothers, Celine Dion, Carly Simon, and many more.

But a couple of years in, the Great Recession hit. Columbia went through a major corporate shakeup under none other than Rick Rubin, and I was laid off with many more. At the time, it felt like the end of the world—but in hindsight, it was one of the most valuable lessons of my life. That early career curveball taught me about resilience, reinvention, and the importance of never giving up on your dreams.

And sure enough, another dream job wasn’t far behind. I moved back to Ohio and joined the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, where my public relations career truly began. From there, I went on to lead digital communications at the Cleveland Museum of Art and later as assistant director of marketing & communications at Hathaway Brown School.

But it wasn’t until the birth of my first daughter that everything shifted. I realized I craved more flexibility, more autonomy—and more purpose in the work I was doing. That’s when I took the leap and founded my own agency, FACTEUR PR.

Today, FACTEUR is an award-winning boutique communications studio specializing in beauty, home, and wellness brands. We help our clients go from hidden to headlining—earning trust with their audiences through powerful storytelling and strategic visibility. We work with clients across Ohio and the world. It’s honestly my dream job, and I feel so lucky to do it every day.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not a smooth road—but I wouldn’t trade the bumps for anything. When I started my agency, I was confident in my ability to do the work. I knew I was good at PR. But what I didn’t know was how to run a business. There’s a big difference between being great at your craft and knowing how to manage operations, finances, systems, hiring… all of it. So much of my journey has been about learning through experience—sometimes the hard way. But thankfully I learned pretty early on to never stop learning and hire experts to help me in areas that I just didn’t know enough about. As a result, I’ve turned into a pretty savvy business owner, too.

Another big challenge has been burnout. As a founder, especially in a service-based business, it’s so easy to pour all of yourself into your clients, your team, and your family—until there’s nothing left for you. I hit a wall more than once, and it forced me to reevaluate what success really looks like.

That’s actually what inspired me to start Grow Your Wellth, a podcast and platform focused on sharing the real stories of growing a business without sacrificing your health in the process. It’s been a healing outlet for me, and hopefully a helpful one for others who are trying to do meaningful work while still taking care of themselves.

The road hasn’t been smooth, but the detours have taught me how to build something sustainable—not just successful.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
FACTEUR PR is a boutique communications agency rooted in purpose and powered by storytelling. We specialize in working with beauty, home, and wellness brands—think skincare lines, medspas, interior designers, clean candle companies, wellness tech and supplements, and more. Our goal is to help these brands go from hidden to headlining by securing meaningful press coverage, building relationships with influencers, elevating their social media strategy, and creating real visibility.

We’re known for being small but mighty—offering concierge-level service and truly treating our clients like partners, not just accounts. We focus on thoughtful, strategic storytelling that builds trust and drives real business results. Our Midwest roots give us a grounded, authentic edge, and we combine that with big-city results without the big-city overhead.

One of the things I’m most proud of is how our work has evolved beyond just publicity. We now offer a full spectrum of brand-building services—from custom events and influencer activations to our Realfluence platform, which connects beauty brands with real beauty experts, and The DIY PR Project, an educational program for solopreneurs who want to learn how to land press on their own terms.

At the end of the day, we’re all about helping purpose-driven brands be seen, heard, and celebrated in a way that feels true to who they are.

What makes you happy?
Alignment. When I’m getting to spend quality time with my family without needing to worry too much about work, I feel the most successful.
