Today we’d like to introduce you to Veronica Thornton.
Veronica, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Like many I’ve had ups, downs, smiles and frowns. The flight of a phoenix can only be speculated by those that were able to catch a glimpse as it passed through on its way to its destination. People say they want to know your story but I always wonder which part would someone be interested in as we all have many chapters to our story that explains the person’s character? So usually I’m left with starting from when I recognized I forgot who I was and then decided to make some changes. I used the world of arts and culture to figure out how to heal and make changes. I found opportunities that allowed my children and myself to explore a variety of art forms and exposed them to diverse cultures in the communities around Cleveland while also using community resources that gave them access to positive role models.
One of the ways that assisted me in the healing process was being a part of various online writing and poetry communities where I used writing prompts to explore some of my inner thoughts and work through issues which also allowed me to use my education in the social sciences to really examine the human experience after earning a degree in Business Administration. That’s around the time when I was invited to a group called The Black Poetry Cafe and attended their annual poetry conference in Atlanta which led to a variety of writing collaborations and quickly grew into contributing to a variety of poetic anthologies across the nation that led to winning a contest that resulted in my first book of poetry”Universal Colloquies Inside of Me” published by Creative Talents Unleashed in 2015 . Since then I have continued to collaborate and contribute to various writing formats beyond poetry with poets and writers from around the country. In 2021 my second book was published, a collection of poetry, essays and musings named “Train of Thoughts.”
Early in 2019 I figured out how to combine my skills, education, life experience and talents and started (Viable, Efficient & Effective Solutions)- Vee’s Consulting Inc a creative business consulting firm.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t been smooth, clear or straight nor was I given a map. The road has been filled with obstacles, seeing and avoiding accidents, taking detours while eliminating distractions and learning to switch lanes to find the right direction which at times I would discover I had to repair as it is the road less traveled. As such in order to continue my journey I had to pave a way. One of the biggest obstacles I had to overcome was me. I kept getting in my own way as I was trying to serve everyone in the beginning. I quickly realized that I had to figure out my target market and continue learning through various types of professional development acknowledging that it was okay to ask for help. I also learned my ability to work across sectors through collaborations allowed me to seek mutually beneficial creative solutions that were not previously noticed.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Creative that has a degree in Business Administration and Liberal Arts. I figured out how to combine the all of the things that create my life experiences and education. The result being I am a Creative Business Consultant. I specialize in finding and creating solutions for organizations which includes but not limited to organizational development, program development and process improvements. I am known for my community engagement solutions, versatility, resourcefulness and adaptability which sets me apart from other consultants that recycle the same solutions to different entities. My versatility allows me to create solutions that are tailored to that particular entity and their specific issues resulting in long lasting results that empower decision makers to try something different sometimes.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
I am happy when I am being creative. My main creative niche is writing. Words are important and finding the words in storytelling is not an easy task for anyone. I believe that creating anything is an art and there is a process to creating and I am always intrigued by the process of how people including myself create things, First the idea, then how to make the idea a reality while making the idea a reality we figure out more about ourselves and how we see ourselves in the world as we create something seemingly out of nothing but pure imagination.
