Today we’d like to introduce you to Jimmy Alexander.
Hi Jimmy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Unrivaled started as a passion project for myself. I wanted to create music that I genuinely enjoy listening to. The band officially started in 2019 when I added Austin Pflum on drums and Paul Lipps on bass. We played various shows during that year, including opening for the Red Jumpsuit Apperatus and Eyes Set to Kill.
We hit the studio in 2020 because during the pandemic, we couldn’t do much else. We recording our debut album Quarter Life Crisis, and released that effort in early 2021.
We immediately followed that release up with a special Halloween EP, titled Ghost Stories. Which featured a cover of TERROR TIME, from the Scooby-Doo Zombie Island movie. And personal favorite song I’ve written, in SECOND LIFE.
As of 2025, we’ve added a second guitarist in Cameron Smith, who adds an incredible presence in songwriting. w
We’re on the verge of releasing our second full length album. While simultaneously expanding our live concerts across the midwest.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I don’t think any project is ever “smooth”. We’ve dealt with the same difficult challenges every small band deals with. Lineup changes. Creative differences. Scheduling. Along with a 2020 pandemic that nearly stunted the band altogether.
But despite all the challenges, we’ve grown as a strong, cohesive unit to get to this point. We book our own shows and have developed strong connections throughout the Cincinnati music scene.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a singer/songwriter for the Cincinnati rock band, Unrivaled.
The best way to describe us is a punk band trying to cosplay as a metal band. We’ve released a full length album in Quarter Life Crisis, featuring driving songs like Still Alive and I’ve Relapsed. Along with some more calming tunes like Bury Me and Borrowed Time.
With our debut record, we’ve also released a Halloween EP. Which you can find both on any and all streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, etc.
If I had to pick one song I’m most proud of, it would definitely be SECOND LIFE. It has such a fun chorus and the verse lyrics are some of the most creative I’ve come up with.
