Today we’d like to introduce you to Naliyah Hall
Hi Naliyah, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started graphic designing in June of 2023, I was asked by an artist’s manager
to create them a cover despite not having much experience. After that opportunity, I continued and became a full time designer in under a year.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road at all. One thing that new artists and creatives have to understand is that there will be days where the client style doesn’t align with yours, your cover might not be selected as an official cover, or even in more unfortunate circumstances, you might find that there will be people who take advantage of your services by requesting free artwork. However, these situations never should turn you away from a future career as a graphic designer because there will always be room for everyone.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Of course! I specialize in cover artwork which includes album/single covers, track lists, motion art, flyers, banners, and logos. I believe I am most known for the graphic artist that created the cover “Ask Around” Single by Stunna 4 Vegas.
Which leads to this being the thing I am most proud of, just because this was a major artist I was able to work with in the matter of 6 months of being a designer.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Surprisingly enough in this industry there aren’t any “mentors” per se, we usually just help each other as best as we can with each project. We also try to do collaborations to exchange ideas or skills. It’s really a big family!
This has helped me in the long run. I will tell the new artists to join this industry to always feel free to reach out to ask questions because gate keeping is a huge “NO NO!”
