Conversations with Pangeaux

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pangeaux

Hi Pangeaux , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started making beats in 2016 down at Carson Newman University where I was playing basketball. My teammate had showed me how he made beats and put me on to a software so I could try it out. I never really looked back from there. I had actually gotten hurt during the season in 2017, which gave me a lot
of time to produce and make demo songs. I’d be up really late just trying to get better. I eventually dropped my first song on Soundcloud and it did around 10k streams in 1 month, which was wild to me at the time and gave me even more drive to make music. After the season was over I had to get surgery on my hip that I injured. After the surgery I just came to a realization that I was done with basketball and wanted to pursue artistry/producing as a career. I dropped out after my sophomore year and came back to Newport, Kentucky to put in the work needed to make a career. Since that time i’ve just worked on developing my sound and learning the music industry. i’ve had a great support system behind which has helped the journey a lot.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There’s definitely been ups and downs throughout the whole journey. There’s a certain mindset you have to take when pursuing a career that’s the total opposite of what people expected from you. I mean I was going to college to be a strength & conditioning coach, but did a 180 flip and chose music. So you get the people that think you made a mistake or kinda look at you with a side eye. That in itself can be difficult, but I surrounded myself with like minded people who were supportive and understood what I was pursuing. Then to add on top of that, working within the music industry can really mess with your psyche. That’s a whole other game that i’m still working through now.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I produce, write and engineer most of my own music and help other artists with their stuff if they want my help. I would say at this point i am known for my song “HOLDIN ON”. It just hit over 6 million streams on Spotify which I’m really proud and thankful for. I would say what sets me apart is my melodies and lyrical content. Not that I think they’re the greatest in the world, but at the end of the day my music is just a reflection
of the stuff i listened to and was influenced by growing up in the Newport, Kentucky area.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
A.I looks like the biggest thing that will change the future landscape of the music industry. I think it could be a great tool, but not something that needs to replace the artist. Independent artist who lack certain resource can utilize A.I to help make the process of promoting your music less of a headache. I’ve used a few A.I apps to make cover arts, so small stuff like that could be helpful for someone who is just starting out and doesn’t have much funding.
