Today we’d like to introduce you to Isabella Weik
Hi Isabella, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Mindfulness and wellness have been a core part of my story from childhood. My parents are the Founders of the Buddhist Temple of Toledo and Shobu Aikido of Ohio. Growing up attending meditation retreats and even having them hosted in my home I got a full immersion experience of the benefits of mindfulness practice. My parents have helped many people over the years transform their lives, and it’s a legacy I’m excited to continue through Toledo Mindfulness Institute.
Growing up with a serious chronic illness I had to learn very early on how to listen to my body. As a yoga teacher and mindfulness coach this informs how I teach. I am sensitive to different abilities and understand what it means to have pain in the body. This is also reflected in my passion for community wellness, specifically social wellbeing and urban planning.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I love this city. When I first graduated from the university of Toledo I found it difficult to find my community of young people who also believed in the renaissance of Toledo. It’s an unpopular opinion to want to stay in the area. I wish that weren’t the case, and I feel it is my mission to help change that. I was fortunate to be able to help found Rotaract, a club who’s purpose is to serve the creative and entrepreneurially minded young professionals of Toledo (pull love and inspiration from TolHouse, I love being a member here!)
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am the CEO of Toledo Mindfulness Institute and also equally am involved as a creative. I am a jazz musician, songwriter, and poet. I learned from the great late Jon Hendricks, Dr. Ellie Martin, Kim Buehler, Ramona Collins and more about the power of music and creativity. Now through Toledo Mindfulness Institute I get to blend my passions of wellness and creativity into everything I do, from 1-1 mindfulness coaching to hosting Sound Healing Concerts to weekly yoga classes.
How do you define success?
Living a life that feels good, serving at the highest level, while uplifting those around me
