Meet Savannah Garrett of Springboro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Savannah Garrett

Savannah, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
It took me a while to decide what direction I wanted to take my life after high school. Like many people, I wasn’t entirely sure what my long-term career path would be, but I knew I wanted to continue learning and growing. I enrolled in college to obtain my associate degree while working part-time to support myself. Juggling school and work wasn’t always easy, but it taught me the value of hard work, time management, and perseverance.

During that time, I found myself increasingly drawn to social media. I loved the way it could connect people, tell stories, and create engagement in a way that felt both natural and powerful. I started at a small position in a local retail store, which gave me a first glimpse into marketing and business operations. It didn’t take long for me to realize that I wanted to pursue a career in marketing, and that realization set me on a path I hadn’t originally anticipated—but one I was excited about.

When I began job hunting, I came across an opening at Schmidt Auto Care for an Operational Assistant. The position was a mix of office management and social media marketing, which sounded like the perfect way to gain experience in both business operations and the digital space. The added bonus? A four-day work week, which was ideal since I was taking online classes at the time. It felt like the perfect opportunity to get my foot in the door, so I went for it.

Once I started at Schmidt Auto Care, I quickly realized that this was more than just a job—it was the start of something much bigger. I took on handling the social media pages, and before I knew it, I was attending networking events through the chamber, making independent marketing decisions, and even teaching a class of my own. If I’m being completely honest, when I first accepted the job, I had no idea where it would take me—but I knew it had the potential to lead to great things.

Lauralee and Erich have been the best mentors I could have ever asked for. They’ve continuously pushed me to learn more, challenge myself, and grow beyond what I thought I was capable of. The number of training opportunities they’ve provided me with is more than I can count, and they continue to invest in my education and development every day. Their belief in me has given me the confidence to take on new challenges, and it’s helped shape me into the professional I am today.

Fast forward to now—I’ve been with Schmidt Auto Care for almost two years, and I officially graduated with my associate degree in Communication in May of 2024. My position has evolved from Operational Assistant to Marketing Director, and I truly love what I do. Every day brings new challenges and opportunities to learn, and I wake up excited to continue growing in my career here. Looking back, I never could have imagined that taking a job at an auto repair shop would lead me to discovering my passion for marketing, but I’m so grateful that it did. I can’t wait to see what the future holds, and I’m proud to be part of such an incredible team.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Overall, my journey has been relatively smooth, but like anything worth doing, it has come with its challenges. Marketing is an ever-evolving field, and there’s always a learning curve when it comes to identifying the right audience, crafting the right message, and figuring out the best platforms to reach people effectively. What works one day might not work the next, and sometimes, despite all the research and planning, a campaign just doesn’t hit the way you expected it to—and that’s perfectly okay.

Marketing isn’t about getting it right every single time; it’s about learning, adapting, and refining strategies along the way. Every success teaches you something, but honestly, so do the moments that don’t go as planned. Those are the experiences that force you to think critically, pivot when needed, and grow in ways you wouldn’t have otherwise. It’s all part of the process, and the key is to never stop learning from each attempt.

That’s why tracking and analyzing data is one of the most important aspects of marketing. You can create the most visually appealing content or craft the perfect message, but if you’re not tracking its performance, you’re basically throwing things at the wall and hoping something sticks. You have to dive into the numbers—see what’s working, what’s not, and why. The insights you gain from tracking engagement, reach, and overall performance allow you to fine-tune your approach, ensuring that future efforts are more impactful.

At the end of the day, marketing is a continuous cycle of trial, error, adjustment, and growth. It’s never a “set it and forget it” type of thing. It requires patience, creativity, and a willingness to adapt. But that’s what makes it exciting—there’s always something new to learn, new trends to explore, and new ways to connect with people. And for me, that’s what keeps it so rewarding.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I work in Marketing, but I specialize in Social Media. That’s definitely what I am known for. I’m proud of the way I have grown in my position, and how I have pushed myself to learn. I definitely don’t want a job where I do the same exact thing everyday. I like being challenged, and I like being able to learn new skills. I think what sets me apart is I can be very good at adapting to quick changes in marketing, and I think that’s important for marketing in 2025 because everything is extremely internet, and social media focused. You need to be able to keep up with the trends—find out what platforms are relevant, and how can you make it relevant to your work.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I genuinely enjoy spending time on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook—not just for entertainment, but because they serve as a constant source of inspiration for me. Social media is always evolving, and I love seeing how other creators and marketers are using these platforms in innovative ways. Watching trends unfold, analyzing engagement strategies, and observing how others in my field approach content creation helps spark new ideas for my own work.

I find that some of my best brainstorming moments come from scrolling through different types of content, whether it’s a creative video format, a unique way of storytelling, or an unexpected marketing angle that grabs attention. Seeing others succeed in this space motivates me to push boundaries and experiment with fresh ideas. Social media isn’t just about keeping up with trends—it’s about understanding why they resonate with audiences and figuring out how to adapt them in a way that aligns with your brand’s message. I love that aspect of my job, and I’m always excited to apply what I learn to create engaging, impactful content.
