Hidden Gems: Meet Ben Palocko of Ben Palocko Fitness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ben Palocko

Hi Ben, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Becoming an online fitness coach was definitely not what I set out to do for a living, but I’m so thankful that’s how things came to be.

At 18, I was a scrawny young man that had no interest in fitness or working out. I wasn’t that interested in school… I thought of myself as hockey player by a day and rocker by night (guitarist in a metal band)—that was my identity. I had low self confidence and didn’t know what my future would look like.

To get bigger and stronger for hockey, I started working out regularly and got hooked. I went on to play play college hockey and get a BS degree in exercise physiology. Then, a master’s degree while training for physique competitions. I started my own online fitness coaching business in 2014 and have been doing that full time ever since.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road… I’ve thought about quitting and getting a ‘real job’ many times, especially in the early years when I had college loans weighing me down.

I’ve had to overcome being a shy introvert, learning business, and marketing myself and my services with confidence.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I do online fitness coaching and work closely with individuals, so everything is private 1-on-1. I’m very proud of the attention I give my clients and how hard I work to make fitness as easy as possible for them.

Specifically, I help perfectionists simplify fitness and break free from the all-or-nothing mindset so they can achieve real, lasting results.

Over the years I realized that my favorite clients (the ones who got the best results) had a lot in common and that were a lot like me in the way their minds worked. I have always been a perfectionist type and really hard on myself. It led to some really unhealthy behaviors that made fitness feel like more of an appearance to keep up than enriching endeavor.

I’m proud to still be doing this, 10 years after I gave it a shot with little hope or aspiration. My process has continually refined and now I’m incredibly confident in the work I do.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I’m not as strict as some people might think. I workout an average of 4 times per week, eat ice cream regularly (shout out to Mitchell’s), and I don’t go hard year around.

Most people would have no idea that I’m super introverted because I can ~turn it on~ when I’m around people.
