Hi Matt, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Three years ago, we, Matt and Liz Pontius, along with our two young boys, moved to Cleveland. In July 2023, we proudly became the owners and operators of My Salon Suite in Rocky River.
Our move was inspired by a desire to find a business that allowed us to be our own bosses and provided the flexibility that young families often need. We became believers in the Suite concept business model, which eventually led us to My Salon Suite. My Salon Suite offers a unique business model within the beauty industry, providing fully equipped, private suites for independent beauty professionals. Each suite is customizable, allowing professionals to create a space that reflects their brand and style while managing their own schedules, services, and pricing.
In our spare time, we love to embrace the beauty and tranquility of living in our small westside community on Lake Erie. Boating, walks, pool days, and exploring different playgrounds with the boys are a few things they enjoy.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Overall, the process went relatively well, but like many ventures, opening My Salon Suite had its share of challenges. Establishing a new business requires significant planning—from securing a location and handling logistics to coordinating with contractors and vendors. We encountered some minor delays in construction due to various small issues, but thankfully, we were able to find solutions to each problem eventually.
Brand awareness posed another challenge. While there are other business models similar to ours that lease rooms to beauty professionals, we are one of only two My Salon Suite locations in the Cleveland area. Consequently, it still requires some effort to educate others about who we are and what sets us apart.

We specialize in leasing premium, private suites to independent beauty professionals, including hairstylists, estheticians, and wellness experts. Each suite is fully insulated to reduce outside noise and features two sinks, a thermostat to allow members control over their environment, and a light furniture package that boasts plenty of storage in cabinets and mirrors. The salon also offers 24/7 security to provide a sense of safety for both members and clients. This model allows each professional to create a personalized space that reflects their brand, style, and services.
