Today we’d like to introduce you to Lori Osterloh-Hagaman
Hi Lori, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
At the age of 16, I totalled my car on the way to school one day. I suffered a broken pelvis and a lot of bumps, bruises and soft tissue injuries. I was very lucky to only have sustained those injuries. However, after my recovery
I seemed to struggle with recurring health issues. After a long string of nagging illnesses, my family doctor told my mother to take me to a health food store. Being a teenager, and skeptical, I expected nothing. Much to my surprise, I experienced results far beyond my expectations. These beneficial results planted the seed for my path as a Natural Health Consultant and Herbalist. They sprouted and grew into The Herbchick LLC.
The Herbchick LLC is a business centered around natural health and herbalism. I offer reflexology, reiki and consultations utilizing many traditional evaluation modalities. I teach bellydance and am a 200 hour registered yoga teacher. I sell handcrafted herbal low impact body care; herbs I grow and dry; and assorted accessories. Because knowledge is power, I teach about herbs and natural health, as well as produce a podcast, called Wholistic Bad Ass, available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music and other platforms.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I feel everyone experiences struggles in life. Its never a competition to see who’s trauma is worse. However, I’ve had my faur share of “life” happen. My first marriage was a case of two kids who thought they knew what they wanted, and we totally didn’t. After it ended, I returned to Ohio State, as a single mom of two boys. Life kept on lifing, of course. I met my second husband and bought a house. We had two more sons. My husband lost his job, leaving me to be the soul financial support for a family of six while i also attended college full-time. I graduated finally with a Bachelor of Science from The Ohio State University College of Arts & Sciences majoring in biology and psychology twenty years after the very first college class i had started. Through all of that, I also attended seminars and workshops, and more or less, apprentinced with local herbal consultants in the area. Even after graduating, I was working jobs in environmental and factory quality control labs while seeing clients on my time off. In 2018, I was let go from a job selling laboratory and medical diagnostic equipment. My father passed shortly after, leaving my mom needing some help due to health issues. My husband, finally back to work, suggested I make the side job into my main job in order to be more flexible for my own family, as well as my mother. My husband passed, unexpectedly, in 2021. I’m still taking care of my younger two teenaged sons, still at home, and my 88 year mother, while pursuing my path as an herbalist and consultant. I guess that’s a lot of “life” in a short time, but I’m still standing and plan to be for quite some time.
We’ve been impressed with The Herbchick LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I want people to see the words “The Herbchick LLC” and think of common sense holistic and natural health. I want to support people no matter where thry are in life. To do that I offer herbs i grow and dry; herbs from Ohio based herbal farms; herbal low impact body care; and other accessories related to those areas. I teach bellydance and yoga as well as offer reiki, reflexology, and consultations utilizing a variety of analysis modalities. I host educational events throughout the year. The “big one” is coming up March 15, 2025 this year. HerbalCon is the name of it. HerbalCon is a trade show and learning event full of speakers, demonstrations and just overall knowledge exchange for all who attend. Its being held at the Auglaize County Fairgrounds. The schedule of speakers, demonstrations, and vendors is available on my website, along with advance registration. There is a discount for pre-registering for HerbalCon. Everything i do is to help people take care of themselves better, so they can take care of our earth, so it can take care of us all.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I was in 4H and FFA all through my school years. I raised dairy cattle and earned a State FFA Degree. I’ve also bellydanced for over 24 years. Dancing, along side painting, allow me to express myself in an artistic manner.
