Hidden Gems: Meet Robin Howard of ReVampt Columbus

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robin Howard

Robin, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
At a very young age, and being raised by a single parent, I understood and valued the need to live frugally. From my first paycheck at the age of 14, I remember spending a portion of it at the Gap Factory Outlet in Northern Kentucky, near my hometown of Erlanger. It was the first time I was able to shop for clothes with money I had earned and I wanted to make the money stretch as far as it could (a value learned from my mother).

Even into my adult and professional years as an educator, many years past needing to shop the clearance racks or thrift stores for additions to my wardrobe, I still couldn’t bring myself to spend full price for anything and found so much joy in the hunt of looking through endless racks and bins to curate the perfect parsimonious look.

After deciding to end my 21 years of teaching career, I have put all my efforts into ReVampt Columbus. The idea for ReVampt started in 2019 when I had my first experiences with Poshmark. Poshmark is an online platform for resellers and for audiences who love shopping sustainably. Initially, I used Poshmark to sell items from my own personal wardrobe and became addicted to the process. Selling my own items was quickly followed by purchasing fun apparel pieces at local Columbus thrift stores to resell. Over the past 5 years, while still teaching full time, I took business courses and started building the ReVampt brand and became official one year ago, in January of 2024.

Today, ReVampt works hard to provide perfectly preloved apparel items to its audiences through Poshmark and various social media platforms. We also offers personal styling and shopping services to varying lifestyles and budgets using sustainable fashion. We are committed to helping clients feel confident in what they wear while celebrating our efforts in having a positive impact on the environment.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Going from working in education for two decades to owning a small business has been quite the learning experience. Because the idea of ReVampt started 5 years before I left teaching, I was able to become familiar with the basics of business building. With that being said, I am not sure even the most versed business minded individual has ALL it takes to manage the multiple facets of being a starting and maintaining a new business. You become the head of marketing, accounting, customer relations, and the list goes on and on. I believe, though, the biggest hurdle has been not to try and follow all the latest trends. This leads to an overwhelming feeling of “not doing enough”. I have to repeat the following to myself quite often: stick to your specific area of expertise, keep learning more about your industry, and remain authentic.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
