Today we’d like to introduce you to Jared Hale
Jared, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started Ohio Sports Radio in 2015 because the major sports news outlets didn’t cover the teams that I liked unless it was something negative. I have always enjoyed talking about sports with people, specifically my friend Ian, who I reached out to initially with an idea of doing a sports blog covering our favorite Ohio sports teams. Ian is a Cleveland Browns fan and I am a Cincinnati Bengals fan, so we had a friendly rivalry already in place. Every day we would sit down and pump out blogs and slowly over time we started to grow a following. As the brand started to grow we eventually brought on more writers and from the blog sprung our podcast, the Ohio Sports Radio Show. Ten years later and we are still going strong.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The hardest part about creating something is just taking that initial jump and doing it. I wanted to start a sports blog because I enjoy talking about sports with people and I’m proud to be from Ohio. Early on it’s difficult when you’re working so hard for little to no results. We were writing so many blogs in the early days and a lot of the time nobody was reading them. Same thing with the podcast. When we started that nobody was listening to it. Ian and I would sit down and research and record and work hard on something for hours that literally nobody was paying attention to. Thankfully we both just kept pushing each other and we continued to put out content consistently and fans slowly started to jump on board.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Our podcast, the Ohio Sports Radio Show centers around our favorite Ohio sports teams. Each week we get together and discuss the latest news with each team, as well as some other nonsense. Our podcast has evolved over the years. It went from strictly sports to other things, such as reviewing game day snacks, pop culture stuff, etc. We also have a website where we blog about sports, life and everything in between. I think the thing that sets us apart from other shows is that we are both genuinely proud to be from Ohio. We are also both so passionate about our sports teams and I think that resonates with people, especially those from Ohio.
The thing I am most proud of over the past ten years is the following we’ve created. We have the best fans ever! They have done so much and then some for us over the years. The fact that someone could read or listen to anything that we create and it makes their day the slightest bit better is incredible to both Ian and I.
We are both forever grateful for all of the support we’ve received over the years.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
We’ve had good and bad luck along the way. We’ve had some set backs with life that briefly stopped our show and writing in the past, but we never gave up on each other or Ohio Sports Radio.
We’ve also been extremely lucky along the way. We’ve met countless people who have helped us or given us advice on things that ultimately helped Ohio Sports Radio get to where it is today. We’ve met the best people doing this and developed so many great friendships. We’re both lucky to know all of those people and I think we’re both lucky to have each other as friends. I’ve been working with Ian for over 10 years now and I can honestly say that I genuinely look forward to seeing and talking with him each week. I couldn’t ask for a better friend/business partner.
