Conversations with Brad & Debbie Howard

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brad & Debbie Howard

Hi Brad & Debbie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hamilton, Ohio is an amazing boom town, full of opportunity and growth. As we wanted to be part of our town and showcase all it has to offer, Brad’s father had just recently passed and left him an inheritance. We decided it would be the opportune time to purchase a small house to use as an AirBnB. After looking for a while with our friend and realtor, we found our adorable little house. We wanted to not only create a place for families to stay that is inviting and comfortable, but also has the little extra touches that we so enjoy on our many travels. We know that its the little things that make the difference between a good stay and a great one. When it came to decorating and creating a theme, Debbie wanted the comfort of a nature/boho feel but also having enough for kids to feel at “home”, we think we have created this space at Kingston Cottage. Brad has done so much with the entertainment space; providing ping pong, pool table, and air hockey in the basement. In the summer we have a stock tank boho sitting pool, which children and families seem to love, as well as a chiminea fire pit to sit around in cooler weather. We have a two story tree house as well as a swing, hanging chair, and chandelier lit sitting area. Every inch of our rental exudes details to create an inviting environment.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Owning a rental property has its own struggles and growing pains, we were not without learning from them. Figuring out how rentals work, how to best serve and accommodate our guests needs and then there is always those that do not honor the places they stay. We learned early on the “do’s and don’t” of being an AirBnB host and ways to host successfully and ensure our home is not damaged at the same time. We experienced several times where we had something new occur with hosting, and chalked it up as a learning experience. Nothing successful comes easy, we feel with every new guest there is an opportunity to learn, change, and grow to something even better. We ask our guests to provide us with ideas they may want, or notice when staying with us. We take these suggestions and implement what we can to make Kingston Cottage an even better 5-star stay than it already is.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Brad and Debbie are both nurses by education.
Brad is currently working at a local hospital and pursuing some other opportunities in naturopathic medicine (watch for opportunities to visit his business soon). We also own an AirBnB rental in Melbourne, Fl. Leewood Forest Pool house is a 4 bedroom, 2.5 bath house with an in-ground heated pool. It is 15 minutes door to the shore of many local beaches. It is less than an hour from the port of Cape Canaveral, an 1.5 hours from Disney, and less than two hours from Palm Beach. It is in a family friendly neighborhood and sleeps 15 guests.
Debbie earned her Masters in Nursing in 2023, allowing her the chance to teach at 2 local nursing schools currently. She also works at a local hospital. Debbie has also advanced her naturopathic knowledge with holistic nursing, reflexology and lymphatic massage for medical and preventative healthcare. She is providing these services in her office in Fairfield, Ohio minutes from the Kingston Cottage.
What sets us apart from others is we want to live better, healthier, longer lives so we can travel together; creating memories and adventures. We want to provide these same resources and share our knowledge with others. Health is not only physical. It is mental, and spiritual. We think we are figuring some of this out and love providing some of these resources to others.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
We learned that it is important to live well, enjoy life, and spend it with those that make it better. When we got together as a second marriage, Debbie said she wanted adventures and told Brad he was welcome to come along. This started the biggest and best adventures for us both. We have traveled to several countries, scuba dived in St. Croix. Debbie has skydived with one of our daughters, and yet there is still so many more things we want to do. In all these we learned its who we are with that makes the difference, its stepping out of our comfort that creates the best memories. It’s trying something new that makes for the best stories. It isn’t always easy, actually stressful a bit of the time, but in the end we are doing it our way. Creating memories and adventures and hopefully gifting others with the same.
