Today we’d like to introduce you to Gary Pillette
Hi Gary, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I run the Monroe Comic Con and Insane Wrestling Revolution events. I got started in running my own comic con in 2013 after my son and I visited one and wanted to bring our very own affordable version to our community. The Insane Wrestling Revolution was started five years ago with my business partner and great friend Rhyno. We run shows every six weeks in Monroe Michigan and occasionally in Port Clinton Ohio and other places. We are about to embark on our first ever pro wrestling convention this May called the Insane WrestleFest.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Our journey has went very smooth because i love what I do and I do it for our community but don’t necessarily depend on it for income because Ive been a Tool & Diemaker at Ford Motor Co for the past 28 years. There’s really no stress but to make sure to bring the very best events I possibly can while still keeping them affordable. The only struggles I see is keeping it fresh for fans and making all of our shows stand above others because there are no shortage of events in Michigan to choose from. Quality over quantity. I want our fans and attendees to forget their problems, make memories with their friends and children and hopefully leaving with the feeling they’re part of the family.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a 53 year old Tool & Diemaker at Ford Motor Co. I’ve owned and operated a sports card and collectables shop ( which i miss tremendously ), I have created and run my own comic book and pop culture convnetion, co-own and run a pro wrestling promotion and try to.jave at least one charity event a year for my community. With all of that the thing I’m most proud of is being a husband to my wife Dawn since 1991, a father to my two sons Drake ( 30 ) and Bryce ( 26 ) and now a grandpa to Clayton and Quinn.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
There is little reward without some kind of risks. I take a risk every show we do, they’re calculated but theres no success in these industries without a little risk. You can’t be afraid to fail, if you are you’ll never succeed.
