Today we’d like to introduce you to Kamilah Brown
Hi Kamilah, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey began with a simple Facebook post. I shared an idea about hosting a tea party with my friends, and what started as a casual thought quickly turned into something extraordinary. That tea party evolved into a high tea event, and in just four days, the tickets sold out for 100 attendees. That moment ignited my passion for creating immersive, memorable experiences.
Since then, I’ve poured my creativity into hosting unique events, with highlights including Bridgerton-inspired gatherings like the High Society Soiree: Bridgerton Brunch and other elegant Regency-themed occasions. These events were all about bringing people together in beautiful settings filled with thoughtful details and unforgettable moments.
This year, I decided to expand my focus and offer my event design services to others who want to bring their visions to life. From intimate celebrations to larger productions, I’ve developed the skills to curate events that are as meaningful as they are magical.
At the same time, my passion for creating safe and uplifting spaces has led to the launch of Key to Becoming. This initiative focuses on the mental health and self-care of young women and girls, offering a supportive environment for meaningful conversations, personal growth, and empowerment. It’s my way of giving back and fostering resilience, confidence, and community.
What began as a simple idea for a tea party has grown into a fulfilling journey of creativity, connection, and impact. I’m excited to continue designing unforgettable experiences and supporting young women and girls through Key to Becoming.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oh, goodness, no! The road has definitely had its bumps. The biggest challenge was when the Bridgerton Ball I had planned for October didn’t happen due to unforeseen circumstances. I want to make it clear that the unfortunate event in Detroit had absolutely *no affiliation* with myself or my team—it was related to another event company in Detroit with a similar theme that went viral in the worst way. I can’t share too much since Netflix got involved, but yes, THE Netflix!
While it was a huge setback, especially after all the planning and excitement, it also turned out to be a major learning experience. It showed me how resilient I am and opened doors to new opportunities. Even in the midst of disappointment, it was a reminder that every obstacle presents a chance for growth. It’s all part of the journey, and I’m more motivated than ever to continue evolving and seizing the opportunities ahead.
We’ve been impressed with Key to Becoming, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m beyond excited to share that I’ll be offering my signature curated events, from corporate functions to baby showers and more, under my own name as a designer, Kamilah Brown. This allows me to bring a more personal touch to my work and continue creating unforgettable experiences. I’ve also recently launched my new website, kamilahbrown.com, where I’m offering event design services and business coaching focused on branding, automation, and marketing strategies to help other businesses grow. At Key to Becoming, we empower young girls and women to unlock their full potential through self-discovery, personal growth, and self-love. We specialize in creating transformative experiences—through thoughtfully curated, luxury-themed events—that inspire and uplift while providing a safe space for meaningful connections.
Our name, “Key to Becoming,” reflects our belief that everyone has an inherent “key” within themselves, ready to unlock their true potential. We’re here to guide individuals to evolve with confidence and resilience, helping them become the best versions of themselves.
What sets us apart is our deep focus on mental health, emotional well-being, and radical self-love. Through every event, we offer tools, support, and experiences that encourage growth, foster belonging, and create a community where women and girls can flourish and learn from one another.
What I’m most proud of is the opportunity to inspire and uplift young women and girls, giving them the confidence to explore their self-worth, mental health, and womanhood in a meaningful, luxurious way. Knowing we’re creating positive change and empowering these young women to face their challenges is incredibly rewarding.
A key part of our vision is creating a dedicated event space that will serve as a permanent home for Key to Becoming— a safe, welcoming environment for growth and transformation. We’re currently saving for this space, where we’ll host inspiring events, workshops, and conversations to encourage self-discovery and foster deep connections. This space will help young girls and women explore their potential in an environment designed to support and uplift them.
Every step we take brings us closer to making this dream a reality, building a community where self-love and personal evolution thrive. We’re committed to providing every young girl and woman the opportunity to unlock new possibilities and be their most authentic selves.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Absolutely, I’m definitely a risk-taker. Some of the most influential things in life require stepping out of your comfort zone and taking risks. For me, one of the biggest risks was launching my own events and business, knowing that I was venturing into an area where I had a lot to learn. Another risk was taking on the challenge of expanding my work into business coaching and launching Key to Becoming —a venture that focuses on young girls and women’s mental health, self-love, and personal growth. It was a leap into something bigger, knowing it would require a lot of time, resources, and energy.
But, in my experience, risk is essential to growth. The things that truly matter, that leave a lasting impact, often require a leap of faith. Sure, there’s always uncertainty, but the rewards of pushing boundaries, learning from those risks, and evolving make it worthwhile. Plus, it’s all about staying true to your vision and knowing that each risk is a step closer to reaching your goals.
