As the president of BESN X Community and the creative force behind D1MSUM.COM, Timothy Fields continues to inspire and uplift his community. He has become a mentor to many young artists, sharing his journey and the challenges he overcame to achieve his dreams. His work with BESN X Community has also expanded to include partnerships with local businesses, cultural institutions, and other non-profits, further enriching the community’s cultural landscape.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Taking on the role of President at BESN X Community brought its own set of challenges. Leading a non-profit organization required me to develop new skills in management, fundraising, and community outreach. I had to navigate the complexities of organizing programs, securing funding, and building partnerships while ensuring that the organization’s mission and values were upheld.
Like many artists, I struggled with the practical realities of pursuing a career in a creative field. Balancing the need to earn a living with my passion for comics and storytelling was a significant challenge. I faced financial constraints, especially in the early stages, which made it difficult to invest in necessary tools, materials, and marketing for D1MSUM.COM.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am best known for D1MSUM.COM, where I bring a unique voice and artistic vision to the world of indie comics. My characters are celebrated for their rich backgrounds and relatable experiences, reflecting the multicultural tapestry of our world. The comic has garnered a loyal fanbase for its distinctive style, memorable characters, and the way it tackles themes of identity, friendship, and resilience.
As President of BESN X Community, I am recognized for my efforts to empower young artists and foster a love for creative expression. Through workshops, events, and community programs, I work to provide aspiring artists with the tools and opportunities they need to explore their talents.
What sets me apart is my commitment to authenticity and cultural representation in my art. I strive to create stories and characters that reflect a wide range of experiences and backgrounds, offering a fresh and inclusive perspective in the comic industry. My ability to infuse humor and heart into my storytelling, while addressing important social themes, distinguishes my work from others.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
The pandemic forced a rapid shift in how we live and work, highlighting the importance of being adaptable. For me, this meant transitioning many activities online, from creating and promoting comics to running programs for BESN X Community. Embracing digital tools and platforms became crucial for maintaining engagement and continuity. This experience underscored the need to be flexible and open to change, which has been invaluable in navigating uncertainty.
The pandemic required innovative solutions to unprecedented challenges. For instance, in the arts, many creators explored new formats and mediums, such as virtual exhibitions, live-streamed performances, and digital art sales. This period reinforced the value of creativity not only as a means of expression but also as a tool for problem-solving and adaptation.
The pandemic exposed and exacerbated existing inequalities in many areas, including healthcare, education, and access to technology. This highlighted the importance of inclusivity and equity in all initiatives.
