Hi Keeona, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been passionate about doing hair since I was just 6 years old. I remember experimenting with styling my doll’s hair and even my sisters hair as a kid it was always something that felt natural to me. As I got older, that passion grew, and I realized how much joy I got from helping others feel confident and beautiful. I loved seeing how a great hairstyle could completely change someone’s mood or self esteem, and I knew this was something I wanted to pursue professionally.

In 2019, I took the leap and officially started my own business, doing hair in my bedroom. It was a humble beginning, but I was determined to make it work. For the first two and a half years, I focused on building my skills, learning the ins and outs of running a business, and growing my clientele. I quickly realized that every client’s transformation wasn’t just about hair it was about the confidence and empowerment they felt afterward. That’s when I knew this was more than just a job for me; it was my calling.

As my business grew, I moved into the basement of my home to create a more professional space. I also began saving my earnings with the goal of opening my own beauty salon one day. In 2023, I made that dream a reality when I was able to invest in my own salon. It was a huge milestone, and it marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter for my business. I’m continuing to grow my clientele and expand my services, all while maintaining a focus on what truly matters to me: helping others feel confident and beautiful in their own skin.

Looking back, it’s been an incredible journey, and I feel incredibly blessed to have turned my childhood passion into a thriving business. I truly believe I’m destined to make people feel amazing, and I’m excited to keep growing, learning, and empowering others through the art of hair.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but every challenge along the way has taught me something valuable. One of the biggest struggles I faced was constantly relocating my business. Starting out in my bedroom, then moving to the basement, I had to adapt to different spaces and environments, which sometimes meant losing clients along the way. Changing locations was tough because it meant rebuilding trust and rapport with clients, and it took time to establish a new routine and atmosphere for them.

But I always kept my focus on my long-term goal—growing my business and providing the best experience for my clients. Even when I lost some clients due to the moves, I used it as an opportunity to rebrand myself and push harder to build a loyal customer base. I learned to be more strategic with my marketing and communication to keep clients engaged and informed about the changes.

The biggest obstacle, though, was making the decision to invest my savings into opening my own salon. It was a huge financial leap, and for a while, I wasn’t sure if I was making the right choice. The fear of taking such a big risk and potentially losing that investment weighed heavily on me. But once I took the plunge and opened the salon in 2023, it turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve made for my business. I gained a lot of confidence in my ability to make smart business choices and saw the direct impact it had on my growth—both in terms of clientele and personal satisfaction.

Since opening the salon, I’ve seen a big shift. It’s been a turning point, allowing me to truly scale my business and deliver a more professional and comfortable experience for my clients. All the struggles and obstacles have been worth it because they’ve brought me to a place where I can fully pursue my passion and continue to help others feel confident and beautiful.

Thank you for asking! I specialize in creating personalized, transformative hairstyles that help my clients feel confident and empowered. Over the years, I’ve built a reputation for not just providing great hair services, but also for my ability to understand my clients’ needs on a deeper level. Whether it’s a big change like a dramatic cut or color transformation, or just maintaining their signature look, I’m known for being detail-oriented and for creating styles that truly reflect each client’s personality and lifestyle.

What sets me apart from others is my passion for making people feel their best—not just through their hair, but through the entire experience. I believe that a great hairstyle can be a game-changer, and I take pride in being able to give my clients a sense of confidence and self-love after every appointment. I also pride myself on creating a welcoming, comfortable environment in my salon, where clients can relax and feel at ease.

I’m most proud of how far I’ve come in my journey. Starting in my bedroom and now owning my own salon, it’s been a testament to my dedication, hard work, and belief in myself. The fact that my clients trust me enough to return and recommend me to others is something I’m incredibly grateful for.

One of the things that truly sets me apart is my ability to adapt and innovate. I’ve always been committed to continuing my education, whether it’s learning new techniques or staying updated on the latest trends in the beauty industry. I’m always looking for ways to offer something unique to my clients. This focus on innovation, along with my deep passion for making people feel beautiful inside and out, is what I believe truly differentiates me in the industry.

At the end of the day, my goal is always to make sure my clients leave my chair not just looking great, but feeling amazing too. It’s about helping them embrace their beauty in a way that boosts their confidence long after they leave the salon.

What’s next?
Looking to the future, I’m incredibly excited about the growth and evolution of my business. Now that I’ve established my own salon, I’m focused on expanding my services, growing my team, and continuing to build a loyal client base. But one of my biggest goals in the next few years is to launch my own line of hair care and beauty products. I’ve always believed in using high-quality, effective products that not only transform hair but also help clients maintain their beauty routines at home. I’m passionate about creating a product line that aligns with my values and meets the needs of my clients.

My goal is to reach over $1 million in sales with my products—helping people achieve salon-quality results from the comfort of their own home. I’m currently working on developing these products, ensuring they reflect my commitment to quality and results. This will allow me to create another revenue stream for my business while providing clients with the tools they need to take care of their hair in between salon visits.

In addition to product sales, I want to continue my education and stay ahead of trends in the beauty industry. Expanding my knowledge in areas like [specific technique or area you’re passionate about], and eventually mentoring other stylists is something I’m eager to do.

I’m also excited about the possibility of expanding my salon business—whether that’s opening additional locations or adding more services like skincare and wellness. Offering a full, comprehensive beauty experience is something I believe will resonate with my clients and help my business continue to grow.

On a personal level, maintaining a healthy work-life balance is key to me. I want to continue growing both professionally and personally, while staying grounded and focused on the things that matter most.

There’s so much potential ahead, and I’m committed to pushing myself and my business to new heights. Reaching that $1 million sales goal is a huge milestone I’m looking forward to, and I know it’s just one step in an exciting journey of continuous growth and innovation.
