Conversations with Nadide Camur Óscar Salamanca

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nadide Camur Óscar Salamanca

Hi Nadide Camur, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
1. Chévere LF Dance Studio (CHDS) was founded with the purpose of connecting dancers a fundamental element called music. The dance studio is affiliated with La Fórmula Music Productions (LFMP), a company whose purpose to educate and spread the colorful cultures of Latin America through performing arts.

Both have work really hard on the diffusion, community growth and inclusion of the LatinX culture, particularly from two main fronts, Music and Dancing.
Many of the different ways of reaching out to the Cincinnati community focuses on performances emphasizing different themes about the LatinX culture, didactic concerts in different educational programs from elementary to college scenarios and our regular classes in our studio in OTR.

We strongly believe that the growth and strength of a community fortifies from the education of its members; hence why we focus our energies, resources and ideas in facilitating those tools for those who search for them, as well as helping our city to discover and comprehend somehow better the diversity and cultural richness of the LatinX countries.

Although our main focus now is Latin America, we also explore other countries like Turkey and Iran, bringing together cultures that from afar seem so different, but once in the right environment we can find all the commonalities that makes us humans.

Currently CHDC is working together with LFMP in the creation of their first album. This multidisciplinary project brings artist from all different branches to tell stories that can help to grow the perspective of what the word LatinX means. CHDC is dedicated to cultivate a growth of Latin dancing education for all aspiring dancers as well as spread the understanding of how to create connection with inner-self through movement and music.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the biggest challenge is the culture of immediacy and ephemeral art. Unfortunately, nowadays the mainstream media has become shorter and quicker leaving small space for retention and creativity.

Another struggle that we have encountered is that it has become very hard to open doors towards a bigger sense of belonging since there are too many options but not always looking forward to explore the culture, just the entertainment. Meaning that, both parts are important, but the scale is definitely inclined towards one instead of being more balanced.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
La Fórmula Music Productions has worked since 2017 seeking to contributing to the education about Latin America culture, in the city of Cincinnati.

In order to approach our community from multiple angles, we have used to main disciplines, Music and Dancing. The undeniable relationship between those two, are just a synthesis of how the human interaction and how necessary is to put what we learn in context.

While La Fórmula is working mainly in the musical area, Chévere LF works in the dancing part.

Back in 2023, we were awarded “Fastest Growing Business in Ohio” by the Chamber of Commerce of the State of Ohio.

The main intention from the multiple sides of our company, is to help the people to get closer to authenticity in any of the performances/classes we impart; Latin America means more than one country, and we try to make sure that any time we are bringing the experience, the community can learn something new and differentiate among each one of the countries of Latin America.

Something that makes us proud of is our community, the fact that we have developed a relationship and feed our passion and interest for growth and learning, is something very unique.

What sets us apart from others is the interdisciplinary approach, from the academic and experiential perspectives; we have the fortune to work Dancing from the knowledge of Latin American Music and Music from the Dancing, It is definitely something that stands out from others.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
In this world of innovative technology, constant changes in content, and challenges in capturing consumers’ attention, taking risks is inevitable. We’ve undertaken several projects that involve significant risk, both past and present. In the entertainment industry, the risks associated with well-attended events, the quality of productions, unexpected financial challenges, and community support all contribute to the role of risk-taking in creating an impact in the artistic space.
