Today we’d like to introduce you to Renee Dreshaj
Renee, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In 2017, I opened Green Opal Salon on the west side of Cleveland with a vision to create a space that not only offered beautiful hair but also prioritized sustainability and care for the Earth as the beauty industry alone produces a large amount of waste. As an eco- conscious salon, we’ve worked hard to build a place where our clients feel good about their choices, knowing that their services are aligned with protecting the environment. Over the last seven years I’ve experienced incredible professional and personal growth and I am so proud of the positive team culture we’ve cultivated. People often tell us they feel that energy as soon as they walk in the door. Green Opal Salon is so much more that just a business- its a community where we genuinely care for one another and where beauty and sustainability come together to make both our clients and the planet feel a little more loved.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like any business owner, I’ve faced my share of challenges since opening Green Opal Salon. One of the biggest hurdles early on was balancing the demands of running a business with my personal life, especially as a mother of three. Juggling the responsibilities of home and work has been a constant learning experience- one I think I’m finally starting to figure out! There were a lot of moments of doubt, especially when managing the financial pressures of a growing business, navigating the impact of the pandemic, and ensuring our team stayed motivated through it all. But those challenges have shaped me into a more resilient and empathetic leader. I’ve learned that staying true to myself and our mission, adapting when necessary, and focusing on cultivating a strong, positive team culture have been the keys to overcoming obstacles. Each challenge became an opportunity for growth, both for myself and for Green Opal.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Green Opal Salon ?
My work at Green Opal Salon goes far beyond hairstyling- its about creating a memorable experience with purpose. One of my main priorities has been cultivating a positive and supportive team culture. I believe that when my team feels valued, inspired, and empowered, it reflects in the work we do and the atmosphere we create for our clients. I’m also deeply committed to sustainability, ensuring that everything we do at the salon aligns with our eco-conscious values, from the products we use to our waste management practices. My work is about building connections- with my team, our clients, and the community. Watching our clients leave not only looking great but feeling refreshed and cared for is what truly drives me.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Going through tough times, has taught me invaluable lessons about resilience, adaptability, and the power of community. One of the biggest takeaways was the importance of being flexible- understanding that even the best- laid plans might need to change, and thats okay. It pushed me to be more innovative, finding creative ways to keep the salon fresh and my team uplifted and supported. I also learned how crucial it is to lean on those around you- whether its my team or my family. Their support, patience and understanding made all the difference. In business and in life, it’s not just about surviving tough moments, but finding ways to thrive and come out stronger on the other side.
