Check Out Jasmine Scheiderer’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Scheiderer

Hi Jasmine, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Born and raised in West Jefferson, Ohio. I graduated from West Jefferson High School in 2016. I was always heavily involved in sports and other extracurricular activities in high school. I was always surrounded by my wonderful group of friends, my supportive parents, and my very humbling older sisters. My confidant through school was my childhood dog, Abby who was always by my side and my best friend. How did start: One of my earliest memories that I believed fueled my passion for animals was having sleepovers at my Aunt Kim’s house. We would wake up before the sun was even rising to go feed stray cats in the area. My aunt taught me about making outdoor homes for feral cats, about TNR (trap, neuter, release), she instilled in me the same compassion and heart that she has in saving animals and wanting to give every animal the absolute best life that you can. She introduced me to Colony Cats and Dogs, where I would volunteer with her and do some job shadowing in high school. In a full circle moment when I moved out on my own I actually adopted my first dogs from Colony Cats.
In 2016 I applied and secured a job as a Kennel Technician with Hayden Run Animal Lodge, I remember driving by the facility one day and thinking how cool it would be to work there. I figured what the heck it’s worth a shot right? Little did know it would become my career. While I worked part time at the Lodge I went to Columbus State Community College and enrolled in their Veterinary Technician program. I graduated with my Associate’s Degree in Applied Science and went on to take my VTNE (Veterinary Technician National Exam) through the help and support of my wonderful friends and family I did pass my boards and officially become Jasmine Scheiderer RVT.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I unfortunately found out the hard way that for the amount of schooling, knowledge, compassion, and grit that Vet Techs have they are not always appreciated and valued to the extent that I believe they should be. Thus leading me to my self discovery that clinical and hospital settings were just not for me. Ultimately leading me back to the place that felt the most like home, Hayden Run Animal Lodge. Janice was eager to welcome me on board as a full time manager and always encouraged me to use my knowledge and skills to its fullest. I would say my career at Hayden Run has been the most smooth of anything in my professional life, the atmosphere we have created here with employees (without sounding to cheesy) is what dreams are made of. I think we all genuinely enjoy coming into work and getting to see each other and tackle the days work as a team.
Personally my biggest obstacle to overcome would be my lack of communication skills. Going from someone who strictly only dealt with dogs and other four legged friends to being responsible for communicating with clientele was a big adjustment. It was quite the reality check when you have to understand that your four legged friend has owners that you need to be able to communicate with and educate. Janice taught me that all I needed to do was take the compassion I show animals and show the same amount to the owners, especially in times of conflict, all people just want to be heard and understood. I’d like to say now that my communication skills and ability to educate with compassion and respect is one of if not the thing I’m most proud of myself for.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Hayden Run Animal Lodge is a pet care facility providing pet care for families when they travel. Their unique setting and caring staff set them apart. They have private indoor/outdoor suites with personalized one-on-one play packages. This makes each guest feel safe, secure, confident and happy while on vacation. Our highly trained staff have over 100 years of combined experience and knowledge. Our success is due to Jasmine and the staff she has helped develop.

In my career at Hayden Run Animal Lodge I am an office manager and the sole Veterinary Technician. I supervise day to day activities, do health checks as needed, distribute medications, and help with client communications. Recently we have started doing monthly “Tech Talks” where I get to talk to my fellow team members about common signs for problems some of our guests or more likely to have i.e. UTIs, hot spots, lack of appetite, bloat, etc.
I think Hayden Run Animal Lodge is most known for its people and it’s also what we’re most proud of. We take pride in our amazing staff, all animals that we get the opportunity to care for are always met with compassion and a friendly face. We are constantly monitoring their behaviors so we can immediately identify when something seems different or off about one of our guests. As for what sets us apart from others? Easy, our fearless leader Janice Landshof. Janice owns Hayden Run Animal Lodge and she constantly goes above and beyond for our clients and guests. She really sets the tone of the business and gives us all something to look up to and strive for. Janice is the heart and soul of HRAL and she is the reason for its success (knowing her she’ll say it’s the staff, but we wouldn’t be here without her) and for making it the amazing place it is today.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
I have a lot of passions, I would say animals in general of all shapes and sizes are a big passion for me because I believe they all deserve to live the absolute best life that they can, and that humans should assist them in achieving that in any way that we can, even if it’s leaving them be. I also take a lot of pride in the people I surround myself with, and I will ride for them until the day I die. Hiking and being in nature is a big passion of mine as well because sometimes grounding myself in a mountain feels more like home than my actual home.
