Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Owens
Hi Mark, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My first artistic expression was my obsession with beats and hooks of music. Music always seem to “soothe my soul”, even as a kid. I was in the band during middle and high school, playing by ear. My teachers were unaware I was unable to “read” music. In 1999, I was introduced to another musician and he and I formed the rap duo CZARNOK. We pioneered UPTOWN music in Cincinnati, Ohio. We were signed by Capital Records and produced an album titled “THAT ONE WAY”.
Fast forward, my expression has evolved into art. My fiancée requested a painting for her birthday after seeing a few pieces I created years before. Once I began painting again, I found I am able to freely express creativity on canvas. Which leads to where I am today!!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This has been such a positive learning and motivating experience! Running my business with my “better half”, witnessing us both grow and excel together has been awesome!!
My only obstacle has been finding/creating suitable storage for all of the work I have created these past three years.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an artist that paints, sings, raps, produces music to bring awareness to mental health.
My medium of choice has been acrylic and spray paint. I have been sampling textured canvases and mural art.
My art is an example of BLACK EXCELLENCE represented by the KINGS I create as a reflection of myself. FROM THE CHAOS, EMERGES THE CROWN is term that describes the series I am working on now RICH ANGEL and KING VIBES. I use stitch pattern in my art to represent being sown back together by the hands of GOD. I feel that as long as you fear of the LORD, a positive attitude and an outlet to express yourself, you can overcome any obstacle ahead of you.
I am most proud of my legacy, which is my family.
What sets me apart from others would be my attitude, confidence and approach on life. I understand and accept life doesn’t go your way or the way you may want it to go. But, also understand, I am not in control and am thankful every second for the opportunities today brings.
