Today we’d like to introduce you to Raquel Wright
Hi Raquel, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Raquel known as Raqi in the model world. I am born and raised in Cleveland. I am 6’1. No I don’t play basketball!! I got started in modeling about 15years ago. I’ve always had a love for being in front of the camera so I took that and began networking til I was able to jumpstart a career (with the help of many). I’ve walked for Jevon Terrance, Indelible DC, 6th Street Vintage, Studio Noelle , as well as many other designers in Cleveland. I’ve also walked in small business fashion week and New York fashion week. My current modeling goal is to walk in the yearly Savage fenty runway show and work with luxury brand Hanifa(Pray for me)! When I’m not modeling, I am Certified meditation teacher, reiki healer. I have my own business offering both services called Just a moment with Raqi.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s never been smooth, but always exciting. I think in the model world it’s easy to get lost in comparison to others, because so much pressure comes with the job. You’re always up against 100 other women who in some way can be viewed as better than you. It takes confidence, real genuine confidence, and the power to never take things personally. Creating my own lane, my own image, and staying true to who I am and want to be had always been a struggle, but….I think I’m finally in a place where I’m just being me and that’s enough. Plus I’m truly having fun!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I dabble in everything creative : art @ab_stractthoughts, jewelry @_junoslovebelieve, meditation @justamomentwithraqi)
I am most known for modeling. I’ve been doing runway modeling for a long time in Cleveland. I’ve been on the news, featured in magazines, and modeled for many brands. I am currently most proud of my comeback. Unfortunately due to health issues, (Von willebrand disease) stopped modeling for about 2 years. I was afraid that when I returned it would be like I never did this before and I’d feel out of place. Instead of I’ve been met with lots of love and support. I’ve been booked and busy ever since, which reminded me of all the work I had done before I stopped. Being kind, professional and good at what you do will always mean something.
Another struggle I’d say has been finding the direction I want to go in modeling. I love high fashion, I love editorial, but I also love nudity. They don’t always flow together, but I think that’s how art works. I think of myself as art. Deciding that I can do all those things and then doing it, has been both a challenge and the reward.
(Von willebrand disease is a bleeding disorder if you experience heavy bleeding during nose bleeds, basic cuts, or during your period ask your doctor to look into it for you)
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I like Cleveland for its creativity!
I believe we’re a city full of people who are super creative. We’re forever growing. We create our own lanes.
The food obviously lol
There’s always something to do. ALWAYS. Not just going to the clubs like people say.
I dislike the people who diss Cleveland. Whether they live here still or move away. Your life is what you make it and blaming a city for it has never made sense to me. Leave Cleveland alone! Lol
