Today we’d like to introduce you to Sebra Debrecht
Hi Sebra, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have been dreaming about creating my own business for many years, and I was looking for something I could build that incorporated my background in art and design, but also my love for floristry and growing things, especially flowers.
At first I had thought to start a small cut-flower business and sell fresh flowers, possibly do some wedding work, but I don’t have the space for growing or keeping fresh flowers at that scale just yet. So one day I came across an artist making these beautiful pressed flower works for wedding bouquets as a unique wedding-keepsake, and everything really just clicked for me since it involved everything I wanted: creating art, working with flowers and the wedding industry. Plus, I knew I could start this type of business from my home without a lot of the overhead of rent, or specialty equipment, etc.
I really got serious at the end of 2023, and went ahead and just applied for a local craft fair being held in February and from there I have done more craft fairs like the Crafty Supermarket and a few wedding shows around the Cincinnati area.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I think the biggest hurdles have been just starting a business and all the things that come with it have been at times overwhelming on top of working a full time job. As any business owner struggles with this, the hard part is that I wear all the hats, so keeping up with everything along side learning the ropes has been a steep learning curve, but I’m working through it! The local small business community has been amazing and so supportive. I couldn’t have come this far without their help and cheerleading.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
The Rambling Florist provides custom-framed floral art services through the art of pressed flowers, I’m most known for my framed wedding bouquet preservations, where I transform wedding day flowers into everlasting works of art that last long after the big day. I also dry and press flowers to cherish baby showers, anniversaries, birthdays, memorials, and other sentimental moments commemorated through flowers.
Additionally, I locally grow, press, and craft flowers from the garden into everlasting botanical artwork. I offer bespoke and personalized pressed and dried floral glass wall hangings, original botanical artworks and prints.
In the future, I’m working towards offering my knowledge and services as a cut-flower garden consultant for those interested in growing their own flowers.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Ordering a flower preservation is easy, just book your frame and event date through my website, or contact me directly at theramblingflorist@gmail.com. I also welcome custom commissions if clients have something special in mind!
