Rising Stars: Meet Elizabeth Salazar of Cincinnati

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Salazar

Hi Elizabeth, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in the Cincinnati area. I come from a household of Venezuelan immigrants. Growing up my parents and family members have always instilled in me the importance of education and perseverance. I’ve always considered myself a very hard worker and have been super involved and active in my community. Whether it be through sports, community service, etc.

I recently had the privilege of being the FIRST in my family to graduate with my bachelor’s degree. I attended Xavier University and received a bachelor of science. My focus was mainly Exercise Science with a minor in Psychology. With my degree I have started personal training, coaching, and group fitness training. I’ve also started doing one on one care for individuals with developmental disabilities. This is definitely one of my biggest passions as I plan to further my education and become an Occupational Therapist someday.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. I dealt (and still sometimes deal with) a lot of burnout. Especially working in any healthcare setting it can take a lot of your energy. However at the end of the day being passionate and able to serve others is what keeps up my motivation.

Another struggle for me was having to figure out navigating college as a first generation college student. I had to do a lot of things on my own. There came moments of trial and error. Moments where I questioned if furthering my education was even worth it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
