Today we’d like to introduce you to Deontre Siler
Hi Deontre, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Deontre Siler. Born and raised in Dayton, Ohio. The city with amazing history in the music history. I’m an alumni at Thurgood Marshall STEM High School. Prior to becoming a fashion content creator, I wasn’t interested in the content creator field. My prior focus was attending college at the university of Akron. I’ve watched many YouTubers and fashion models,
but I was never interested in such things early on. I had a great following on instagram throughout my years at school and I never really knew exactly what I wanted to do with it. I started off doing promos such as doing shoutouts for a certain amount of duration. Prices varied from how long a person wanted to be posted, Usually ranging between $5-$20 for 24 hrs, 12 hrs, or days. I started doing content creating around august 2022. What started off as a beautiful date with my Girlfriend (J’Ana) turned into an unexpected surprise. We had matching outfits for the day and was having a good time taking pictures and ended the day going to the movie theater. The post I shared did great numbers with shares from my friends and other more people around the world. Eventually my post caught the attention of a clothing brand named ROMWE. They posted me on their instagram page and it was quite pleasantly a surprise to me. I didn’t expect such thing to happen. Since that day my Girlfriend, who I credit a lot of the success for helping me be in the position I’m in today convinced me that this was my sign to take fashion content serious. I’ve been approached by modeling agencies before in the past but I never took that sign as a area I should work with. J’Ana always said I had the instagram following and the appearance according to her words to take it serious and how successful I can be in this area of content creating. Ever since that day I’ve been featured on websites, ads, outfit pages. An extremely astonishing reminder how far I’ve come in the years.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey in which I’ve taken has not been a smooth road. Sadly college can be very “costly” to some families. Didn’t have a car yet at the time. I came back home and decided to take a gap year off to rework my priorities and get ready to return back to college. I was in that transition period of not knowing where I could succeed at. I started having doubts whether or not I would make it through college or even yet come back to campus. It started weighing hard on me especially being the first generation to attend in my family. It was a hard to decision to swallow because at the time I knew what career field I wanted to pursue and that was electrical engineering something I been passionate about since I was about nine years old. To have that feeling of a career you dreamed about slowly and slowly slip away and be further out your grasp it starts making you have doubts of whether that field was the right decision for you or not. As time passed you see everyone else go back to school and have success in their field of work and graduating college early. It started turning into a feeling of being left behind and being a failure because in the same breath and in my mind I’m also supposed to be apart of that group. That was a hard struggle to really come to terms with and I ever wondered if I would ever have success in career.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As a fashion creator, I post outfits from other clothing companies. On the side of that I work as a brand ambassador/ model to bring awareness and more people to buy products from such brands. The fun side I do is make dope reels for brand promotion and tiktok for content creation with my girlfriend (J’Ana) and also we are creating content on our YouTube channel as well. I’m known for having amazing streetwear outfits that I like to post that clothing companies reach out to me for clothing brand collaborations. I’ve collaborated with many brands and still more to come that I will be posting as well in the coming time. My specialty is putting together the best fitting reels and post to help promote clothing brands. I’m most proud of sharing what the clothing brand is and recommending products to them to buy. Some friends or follower I run into in person or some followers ask sometimes where do I shop for streetwear clothing at and I usually love telling them about the brand and how authentic it is. To the people authenticity, shipping times, and the quality, and quantity of the product is important because I want them to spend their money on a great brand that they can continue to shop at. Hard work, consistency, confidence is what sets me apart from others. I receive discounts from clothing brands that I can share with my audience to where they can not only shop at a nice brand, but also get a good deal for what they pay for and everyone always appreciate that I tell them where I got it from because it makes me happy as well.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned along this journey is that you can never be scared to fail. One door may close but another always opens up for you or anyone else that may feel the same way. I struggled with not knowing what I want to do and not being able to pursue my actual career I wanted it felt like it was out of reach for me. It weigh a heavy ton on me mentally and I’m really thankful for having my friend (Lynette) and J’Ana for helping me understand that lesson and reassurance that everyone’s journey is different and that when you understand that, you’ll be confined to confidence in yourself and that doors open up for you in different areas in the world.
