Today we’d like to introduce you to Shane Rorrer
Hi Shane, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
As a two year old child I witnessed the transformation that can happen with cosmetics. Being the first born child in my family, my mom would sit me at her vanity in the morning as she would get ready for work, Day after day I started catching on to her routine. Not even knowing exactly what the names of the products were, I watched as she carefully placed her eye shadow, mascara, foundation, blush, and finally lipstick.
I thought it was so cool to see a humans visually elevate their looks with cosmetics. I thought at two years old “why isn’t everyone doing this?”
I seen Shania Twain on TV with a hair dresser and a makeup artist buzzing around her with intensity while they work. I asked my mom what they were doing to her. She told me that they are doing their job; getting Shania ready. I understood the meaning of someone having a job at that age. I remember asking my mom “…like how you go to work every day?” She explained that this was their chosen job. I correlated this to the closest human form of creating magic.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being a male adolescent that was always interested in curating looks on humans. I sometimes had push back from other male peers as it wasn’t the popular things for males to be interested in. I never diverted from my passion. Thankfully I have very supportive family that always allowed me to be authentically me. I recognize as an adult that not everyone grows up with support. Without support I don’t think I would have made my passions into my career.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a license Cosmetologist by trade. My speciality focus is Makeup & skin knowledge. I service many different types of makeup clients for many industries. I have worked New York Fashion Week with Aveda. I also service weddings and media outlets like News Nation. I also provide makeup and skin care education for clients.
After five years with of working with Aveda, I wanted to go beyond what was available in my salon network. A great makeup application comes down to the condition of the skin. I wanted to get closer to medical results for my clients; this is why I have partnered and worked with The Parker Skin & Aesthetic Clinic for the past five years. I needed a facility with state of the art equipment and knowledge which is what attracted to me to collaborate with Dr.Lydia Parker.
I get my clients ready for all stages of their lives. Their wedding, ceremonies, and celebrations. Through every part of their personal aesthetic evolution, every decade of life requires a different adjustment from the previous. That first date to the first signs of a wrinkle, I am there to provide solutions throughout.
How do you think about luck?
I am lucky that I have always been surrounded with people and family that supports me. This has allowed me to bring my makeup art and skin knowledge into the lives of other people.
