Hi Melissa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started my journey after losing my corporate job due to layoffs. I had to sit in a space of discomfort and think about what I wanted my new chapter to look like in life. I have a background in interiors and when I reflect on what I have always enjoyed most it is my home and family AND helping people. It was a perfect marriage to blend my love of home, and helping people to create my business. I am now a one-stop shop for everything home. As a realtor I can help find a turn-key dream home, find a home we can make into your dream home, and sell your current home for top dollar using my skillset as a property stager. If you see the potential in your current home I can work with you to make changes so that your home looks, feels and funtions how you want it to. I also work with my clients to style their homes for the holiday season. I think one of the most frusterating things can sometimes be researching who can help you with projects – when you start a working relationship with me I can help you every step of the way with your home needs.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Discussing the early years of running a small business can be incredibly valuable for entrepreneurs. I recently read an article that outlined the different stages of a business that I follow and their journey, including the income earned and the strategies they implemented to reach their current level of success. Interestingly, I found that their trajectory was quite similar to my own experience. While recounting this with a friend, they reminded me of the challenges they had faced in their own entrepreneurial journey, which I had forgotten, as they are now highly successful. For those starting a small business, especially if they are going it alone, it is crucial to surround yourself with a community of positive, supportive, and like-minded business owners. This allows you to share and learn from each other’s experiences, including the obstacles and learnings along the way. For me some of the biggest struggles have been feeling like I should be farther along which can feel so paralizing. So having that community to lean on can help you keep going.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As an interior designer, I specialize in creating beautiful and functional living spaces that cater to the unique needs and preferences of my clients. I have eye for detail and funtion is just as important to me as how things look, I work closely with homeowners to transform their visions into reality whether it is a whole house, one room, one closet or a holiday styling. My expertise spans a wide range of areas, including real-estate, space planning, color and material selection, lighting design, furniture arrangement and organizing. I take pride in delivering projects that not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of a space but also promote a sense of comfort, relaxation, and productivity for those living in the space. What makes my business different is that you can call me for all of your home needs from point of purchase through a small closet reorganization. I am a one stop shop.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The most important thing in what I do is hearing what people are saying and being able to ask the right questions to understand what the vision is. Sometimes you can have an idea in your head but it can be difficult to paint a picture of what you see for others. I excel at getting that information out of my clients’ brains and helping it come to life for them. I get so excited to see my clients’ reactions when I nail their vision – it reminds me of someone seeing a magic trick.
