Hi Tim, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey into coffee roasting began when my brother, who had experience roasting his own coffee beans, introduced me to the craft. I delved into learning about the history of coffee and the intricacies of the roasting process. I soon started experimenting with creating different blends, combining beans from various regions around the world. The process and the discovery of diverse flavors was exciting.
In 2022, I decided to transform my hobby into a business, founding Warp Zone Roasters, LLC. I started by selling bags of coffee through our website and at local summer outdoor markets. These market experiences helped me forge valuable connections, which led to opportunities to sell my coffee in local handmade boutiques across Northeast Ohio.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Thankfully, it has been a relatively smooth road thus far with only minor bumps along the way. The real struggle has been having patience and allowing for things to happen when they’re supposed to happen, not when I want them to happen, which is usually immediately.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Warp Zone Roasters is a small family business that I operate with the help of my parents, Beth and Glenn Gaewsky, and my niece, Corrine Nelson. We’re a Cleveland based micro coffee roaster specializing in small batch signature coffee blends.
The name, Warp Zone Roasters, merges the world of video games and coffee. In the context of video games, a warp zone is a special area that allows a character to be transported to a different location in the game. Similarly, when it comes to coffee, each region in the world produces coffee beans with distinct flavor profiles that can transport coffee drinkers on a sensory journey. Thus, one thing that sets us apart from other coffee companies is our unique blends of coffee. We select and roast beans from different regions around the world, allowing coffee lovers to explore and discover new flavor experiences.
In 2023, we expanded our offerings to include coffee-inspired essentials such as coffee-scented candles, diffusers, and soaps, all handcrafted by my mother, Beth. Our latest additions are custom personalized coffee party favors for weddings, baby showers, and graduations. We also provide monthly subscription options for our regular online customers and bulk five-pound bags of our popular blends.
Currently, I am developing additional blends, and we’re excited for our future growth and expansion as we’re in the process of building a mobile coffee truck to take our coffee and espresso drinks on the road.
