Today we’d like to introduce you to Garrett Shelby
Hi Garrett, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in West Chester, OH, and was deeply involved in athletics, which sparked my interest in optimizing performance. As I progressed through school, I realized that improved performance isn’t just about sports; it’s about maximizing what you love most in life. Whether it’s playing the drums, golfing, playing with your dog, or anything else that makes life worth living, I wanted to help people do these activities to their fullest potential.
This desire led me to chiropractic school after completing my undergraduate program at Miami University of Ohio. While there I discovered that chiropractic care was the most influential factor in helping the body function better. During my four-year postgraduate doctoral program in Atlanta, this idea was reaffirmed.
Chiropractic offers many techniques, each geared towards different areas of practice. I focused on techniques that improve neurological function rather than solely managing pain. These techniques are more technical and less commonly practiced in physical medicine. Specifically, I concentrated on upper cervical alignment and its impact on functional neurology. This technique has a significant influence on brain function due to the delicacy of the area it targets.
I noticed the most significant difference in my life when golfing. Since this technique strongly influences body balance and coordination, my golf handicap has dropped by 10 strokes. Most people can benefit from this treatment, and I wake up every day excited to see the positive changes it can bring.
Since, I have written and published a book called The Vital Balance: The Blueprint the healing from anything and living a superhuman life. It helps educate people on every habits and wellness routines that will undoubtedly improve their quality of life. Along side this, I have launched a wellness coaching platform where I recommend supplements, recipes, exercise regimens, and much more.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Looking back, the road was extremely rough, especially during my doctorate program. Thankfully, throughout school, I incorporated the wellness and mindset tips outlined in my book. As a result, I cruised through all the practical exams and national board exams with much less stress and frustration compared to my colleagues.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
In my work, I offer people a different perspective on health care. Today we have more of a sick care system than anything else. Drugs are often the first line of defense and our culture definitely isn’t health focused. I’m here for the people who are ready to start making the function of their body a priority. Often it’s when our body fails is that we reach out for help. When we keep a healthy vehicle to navigate through life with, our experience is so much better. When people are ready to live a better life, I’m ready for them.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Risk is an interesting concept. I tend to approach it logically and courageously rather than emotionally. This analysis can become overwhelming as I try to understand every part of the situation. When it becomes too much, I zoom out, look at the bigger picture, and realize that it will have little impact on the grand scheme of our existence, allowing my intuition to guide me.
