Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Kessler Donnelly.
Hi Sarah, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello! I’m a 42 year old woman, mom, wife, homeschooling teacher, certified Ayurvedic Wellness Coach, Yoga instructor and owner of Healthy & Whole Wellness.
I’ve been practicing yoga for over 20 years, and a little over 10 years ago fell in love with yoga’s sister science, Ayurveda. Ayurveda, translated from Sanskrit, means knowledge of life. It is one of the world’s oldest healthcare systems. Both preventative and curative, it’s based on the philosophy and belief that health and wellness are attained by the balance of the unique and individual qualities of a person’s mind, body, and spirit. Each person has an imprint of qualities which, after identified with help of a practitioner, is held as the foundation of health for that person.
Ayurveda has simplicity and accessibility in its philosophy and lifestyle, turning to the rhythms and elements of our natural environment. It offers 5,000 years old wisdom which includes the complexities of how human beings best balance physically, mentally & emotionally, and spiritually.
I loved the idea of sharing this wisdom with others who are looking for help to attain health, vibrancy and balance with the mind and body. This is the reason for creating Healthy and Whole Wellness, I now meet with women and men to help them using this ancient health system that has proven to be such a grounding home base for many.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Honestly, the roadblocks for me typically appear as an imposter voice-‘ how can I authentically share such an amazing, simple but intricate lifestyle system that was developed over 5000 years ago? And ‘I’m not perfect in practicing Ayurveda 100% of the time… what about that?’ One of the interesting elements of Ayurveda is that there is space and opportunity to embrace this honestly, sit with it, and use their tools to shift into a more confident, empathetic, and compassionate place. Basically, the roadblocks equal a deeper practice!
As an Ayurvedic Wellness Coach, I meet with clients, listen deeply, and help them discover more balance and ease while navigating obstacles and challenges of their own.
As you know, we’re big fans of Healthy and Whole Wellness. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Healthy and Whole Wellness provides opportunities for in-person and virtual consultations. I offer evaluations which act as a basis for individualized plans for nutrition, daily routine outlines, suggestions for herbal and essential oil additions, techniques for self-love, as well as ongoing check-ins with clients. I also offer private yoga classes, meditations, and pranayama (working with the breath).
We’d love to hear what you think about risk-taking.
Ayurveda is making its way into more conversations in this area. However, the deeper understanding of what it is, what it could look like, what it isn’t… is still in growing stages. It’s encouraging to see how quickly it’s becoming more recognizable, but I do risk the encounter with cynicism, confusion and even debates at times when brought up in discussion.
