Life & Work with Joe Laber

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe Laber.

Joe Laber

Hi Joe, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My background, training, and degree are in broadcasting. I graduated from the International College of Broadcasting in 1991. I have a passion for COMMUNITY outreach and growth!!! Since graduation, I’ve enJOYed being a full-time radio talent for many local stations in and around the Miami Valley area. In 2017, I left full-time radio to start A Cup of Joe Media and start brewing engaging content in my home studio. I’m still blessed to have a radio client and am on the radio every weekday from 9a-12p on WPTW in Piqua. My other client friends are social media driven. I brew fresh content, engagement, and organic growth for small brands. Thus making the brand more famous on social media. I also COACH small brands to social media success. I have sooo much fun brewing content that gets noticed and makes a difference for my nonprofit and business client friends. I have a passion for utilizing media outlets to help small brands GROW!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I left full-time radio, my main goal was to transition into becoming a full-time voice talent from my home studio. That did not pan out @ all for many various reasons. So, I shifted gears and started promoting my menu of fresh brews to small radio stations nationwide. From copywriting commercial ads and imaging to voicing and producing commercials and brewing and posting content for social. Over that year (2018), I started gaining more and more radio clients and was having a ton of fun! After about a year, those stations started making budget cuts and, unfortunately, discontinued my services. I needed to shift/pivot yet again. I had a lightbulb moment. I had realized that for all the stations I ever worked for and the nonprofits I volunteered for, I was their social media manager by default. It was crystal clear that I needed to become a boutique agency that serves the social media needs of small businesses and nonprofits. So, I shifted my business plan yet again and set out to find clients. To a point, it was like starting from scratch. It was a bit scary and very exciting all at the same time. I started getting a few new client friends and was really starting to get my MOJO back. I’m happy to say now that each door that closed before led me to the happiness I now have today!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I refer to myself as The Social Barista. I have a passion for and enJOY helping small brands (nonprofits and businesses) grow their client, donor, and volunteer base utilizing the power of social media. I do this through freshly brewed coaching and content creation. I get super EXCITED when I hear from my client friends that they are seeing results and growing their brand to new heights. I’m a one-man show with much media, branding, and marketing expertise and I use that to help guide my client friends to social media success.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I’m so blessed to be an Ambassador for the Troy, Ohio, Chamber of Commerce. I have a passion for all things Troy. I love cheering on new and current businesses and nonprofits and supporting ALL things local. Troy is such an A-M-A-Z-I-N-G place to call home. We are sooo blessed with a thriving downtown and with our continued growth in all corners out. My love for the city and the people runs deep.
