Today we’d like to introduce you to Sevi Kontokanis.
Hi Sevi, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I’ve been taking photographs for as long as I can remember. Growing up, my mother and I spent most of my summers in Greece visiting family, and I often found myself inspired by the gorgeous views all around me. I started photographing landscapes and architecture with an old point-and-shoot film camera my parents had laying around until they eventually bought me my first digital camera. I would bring that camera with me everywhere, taking pictures of my friends and our countless adventures. In high school, I upgraded to my first DSLR camera and started taking senior portraits and photographing various school events, which ultimately led me to start my own photography business. Throughout college, I followed my passion of photography by taking both business and photography classes and participating in several photography workshops to master the art of both digital and film photography. I now use both of these mediums in my business as a wedding and elopement photographer!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have had some personal struggles in my life, but I have always found that photography has allowed me to connect with people in a very unique and intimate way. It is truly something special to get to photograph people on one of their happiest days of their lives. It has kept me inspired despite life’s many challenges.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a wedding and elopement photographer based out of Cleveland, Ohio and I was named the city’s best elopement photographer by Peerspace in 2023. I also love to travel and have photographed weddings all over the country in major cities like Chicago, Indianapolis, and Pittsburgh, and National Parks like Joshua Tree and Mount Rainer. I strive to capture natural and authentic moments by using a mix of fun, candid-style documentary photography and posed, candid-style photography to highlight my subject’s unique personalities to ultimately best tell their love story. My photographs can be described as artistic, dreamy, romantic, and ethereal.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My fiancé, Jeffrey Scott Janison, is my number one fan and supporter, along with my parents and close friends. Word of mouth is huge in the photography industry, and without their constant support and encouragement, I would not be where I am today.
