Meet Harmony Brooks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Harmony Brooks.

Harmony Brooks

Hi Harmony, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My first introduction to baking was through a culinary program in high school in 2007. It wasn’t long after I started baking cakes for people as a teenager. When the 08/09 recession hit, I had to hang up my apron. Both for financial reasons and because I had simply lost my passion.

After spending years trying to discover my calling, I landed right back where I started. When my husband and I purchased our first home, I put the apron back on, and baking came back to me as if I never stepped away at all. I decided to try different things than what I did in the past, specifically macarons and creating cookie art on sugar cookies.

While a business wasn’t in my mind at first, my husband encouraged me to move forward with it. Shortly after, he came up with the business name harminis; a play on my name, Harmony. This came from a night I was making mini macarons.

The business journey has only been 8 months thus far, but I’m looking forward to the years to come!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting a business is always tough. Finances are always a struggle for new homeowners in addition to a brand-new business on board.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I love to create memories with edible art, especially when it is a part of a special occasion. The best part of what I do is seeing the reaction of my clients when I’m able to bring their vision to life. Even more so when they give me creative freedom my mind goes wild with creativity.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
Absolutely! I take full advantage of internet resources such as TikTok, Instagram, capcut, and Facebook. I love to display my work not just to gain clientele, but to inspire others who are interested in this field. In addition to the apps that help me build my content, my mind is kept busy listening to history audiobooks and podcasts while I bake and decorate. I don’t have as much time to sit down and read books anymore, so I try to dig into something sustaining and educational while I work.
