Today we’d like to introduce you to YeahMel.
Hi YeahMel, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I first started to write lyrics in my notebook at the age of 15, I think I fell in love in music itself once my brother first invited me to the studio at the age of 8. I just had to say a little part in the song, but I eventually ended up recording music myself. I used to sit at the lunch tables in school and freestyle for my friends and everybody was shocked I didn’t record anything, so I started and never looked back! I feel like music is a beautiful thing for the listener as well as the creator, although I feel I’m going insane sometimes I wouldn’t pick anything over the music itself. My stage name, YeahMel came because every time I did something good, people would say, “Yeah Mel!” Very enthusiastic, so I thought that’d be a cool name, simple, straight to the point, and hopefully memorable to the people.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all. Everything from writing, arranging lyrics, recording, mixing, mastering, to performing, being a likable person (genuinely) maintaining relations, being entertaining while being able to financially support myself weighs a lot on my mental health. Luckily, I’ve been blessed to be placed with a psychiatrist and am currently in search for a therapist to maintain balance in my life. My main preach is mental health. With anything that you do your number one focus should always be yourself. Mental health is one of the most overlooked things because I feel like things can go bad very fast if not maintained. Meditation has helped me immensely on my musical journey.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a creative outlet; I love to create not only for myself but for others. Nowadays I feel the need to detach from my works, not because of insecurity but more so that I don’t get so wrapped up in myself. I start to think everything is about me. I feel like once you start gaining popularity, then comes comfortability, and that is the last place I want to be creation-wise. I create, put it out there, and let the people talk and discuss it. If I work with someone, I try to get them out of their head and more in the moment. My main love is my music, but I do not shy away from other avenues such as YouTube, TikTok, I recently just started working with photoshop and Premier Pro I love experimenting with different things. To be honest, I think what sets me apart is my discipline. I will always try to write my best verse; every song must be not perfect but near it. I learn every day, I learn the music business, new ways to mix a song, I mix music for free just to get experience. Being in the music industry is my goal, whether I’m the performer or behind the scenes, I will sleep, eat, and breathe anything music. I’m mainly known for my music, which I’m very proud of.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Being in the right place at the right moment has always helped me meet so many diversified people. I absolutely love it. It’s all the universe, if it’s meant for you, it will be. Hard work, dedication, luck, and resilience, all mixed in with talent and personality, is the recipe for success.
