Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Viera.
Hi Jessica, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 2015, I was in search for a hobby, a creative outlet. I was working as a dental assistant for 12 years; I found that I was losing my interest and was searching for my passion; I was always interested in photography taking pictures with my iPhone was definitely something I love to do, but I was venting to my grandma, telling her I wanted to find something that I love to do for work, little did I know she took note that I love taking pictures and asked a significant question if I ever thought of taking professional pictures, I told her I never use a professional camera, Shortly after that, my birthday was approaching, she decided to surprise me and purchase a professional camera for me. I started taking pictures of everything and fell in love with the personal perspective. Photography gave me how much I was able to make someone feel beautiful I love making people smile. As my new hobby grew, people started asking how much did I charge wanting to book appointments with me, this then became a part-time job, no longer a hobby, my clientele grew, I became more and more interested solely in photography. About a year later, I was forced into a compromising position. I tore my ACL, my MCL, and my meniscus, I was in forced to be off of work for six months during recovery. I fell deeper into photography as that outlet allowed me to zone out into a creative space, and took me away from the depression that the injury was causing then had an Epiphany and thought well if I couldn’t walk at least I could take pictures, Viera’s Vision Photography was then born and I created a small studio in my basement, I continued to create, doing outdoor sessions, and utilizing my home studio, a few months later I was released to go back to work unbeknownst to me my position was filled due to the duration of time I had to be off to recover, I then had a friend encourage me to dream big and open up a creative studio in 2019, I now create many visions for my clients, I absolutely love to create maternity, newborn, family and birthday photoshoots, I’ve also developed a hobby of collecting unique props., I rent throne chairs for events, and I have sold landscape photo art as well; I have many dreams and aspirations for Viera’s Vision, and I can’t wait to see what I will be asked to create next! I appreciate each and every client I get to create memories with and for!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to photography has many ups and downs, having to learn, busy seasons and slow seasons, and how to overcome many obstacles; creating this business has shown me that I’m not just a photographer; I am many things all in one When you own a studio, you become the secretary, the marketer, and the photographer, there is many positions you’ll hold when operating a studio.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a photographer. I specialize in creative maternity newborn and children photography. I create sceneries and sometimes even get to have fun creating outfits to go with the scene. I love to get involved in the creative process; I have done many different types of photography; being that this has turned into my full-time job, I still like to remember how it started and keep it as a hobby to do that I have created my own sessions as well going out into nature and capturing landscapes, I love traveling and taking pictures of beautiful sceneries which has led to me selling photography as art. I am most proud of how I’ve been able to make an income off of the art and many aspects of photography…
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I like the historical aspect of our Youngstown city and accessibility to the beautiful Milcreek Park to keep a fresh eye and perspective on the culture of photography; I love to travel and enjoy the many views the world has to offer!
