Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Haren.
Hi Ashley, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am an Ohio native, raised in Newark Ohio; I like many other bakers grew up loving to spend time in the kitchen learning to bake with my grandma and great-grandma. It’s something that has always held a special place in my heart and something the older I get the more grateful I am to have had that opportunity. I went to Ohio university following high school, and obtained my BSN. I started my nursing career in 2017 as an ER/ Trauma nurse, after two years of working in Ohio I decided to start a new endeavor of travel nursing; while working on an assignment in Texas, I would bake for friends and coworkers because it was a way for me to relax when not working in the ER, and even more so I enjoy the happiness people experience while eating baked goods. I started Registered Bakes as people showed a growing interest in my baked goods. Which I have continued with since moving back to Ohio in August of this year, while nursing is my passion and my full-time job, I have also been able to bake more! Which I truly enjoy, and hope Registered Bakes can continue to grow and develop in the next year now that I’m back in my home state.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey, like any other small business, has had a fair share of trials and tribulations. One of them being starting this while traveling. Your customers become consistent, and you see growth and then I would have to leave and go to another assignment, so hoping now that I have moved home, I can connect with more people, and grow a customer base here in central Ohio.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I formally competed in bodybuilding, after my second competition I had wanted a cheesecake but not a store-bought cheesecake, so I decided to try and make my own dream cheesecake, shockingly in was successful! After sharing my cheesecake with coworkers, it became a huge hit and to this day is something I love to make and definitely, one of my most asked for items.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Ideally, I would love to grow into a brick-and-mortar storefront and put baking on the front burner. Spending more time in the kitchen and doing what I enjoy, investing more in my passion and my small business.
