Daily Inspiration: Meet Christian Harris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christian Harris.

Christian Harris

Hi Christian, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started doing photos back in 2012 for a DJ at Club Scripts. I would take photos for him while he DJs there. A little while later, I ended up in trouble with the law, that got me 3 months in jail. While I was in there, I told myself that when I got out, I would start to do photography. Soon after I got released, I took all the money I had, plus other money that was coming in, and Oct 9th, 2013, I started doing photos. I went from taking photos at clubs around Cleveland to doing photoshoots. 2016 was a bad year for me cause my brother went missing Feb 21st, 2016. I went to my manager at my job (McDonald’s) and asked if I can go with my family to find him. To my surprise, they wouldn’t let me. I was told that if I didn’t show up for work, I would be replaced. After hearing that, I quit working my job and committed to photography full-time. It wasn’t until 2018 that I was offered a membership to do studio work to grow my photography. 5-6 years later, I’m still with the same people (Kreative Kage), learning and growing as a Professional Photographer

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road I took was never smooth. I have went through ALOT of struggles, but the one thing that I always did was pray; even on my good days, I still prayed. I went through losing my apartment many times having to choose my studio space over a roof over my head. I’ve been broke because I’ve put my business before my personal self. I have lost nights of sleep due to me trying to make sure my clients get they photos fast and with great quality. I’ve been played by clients, swindled, disrespected, threatened…etc, but no matter what, I will stayed focused through it all and pray for many better days.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Well through my photography, I love to capture memories that I can look back on for many years to come. I’ve dedicated my time to capture as much photos and I also keep almost Every photo that I’ve taken since 2012. I love working with models, Doing Maternity Photoshoots, Family Photoshoots, and Headshots.

Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Risk Taking is a part of being an entrepreneur. If you not trying to take risks, you shouldn’t be in business at all. The one biggest risk I’ve took in my photography career is when I quit my 9-5 job and went full-time doing photography. I didn’t have much money in my pocket at that time and didn’t know how I was going to survive, but I did know that God had my back, and that’s all I needed to know!
