Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Julie Sharrar.
Dr. Sharrar, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My sister started working for a chiropractor when I was in high school, which is how I got interested in chiropractic. Then, once I graduated for chiropractic school, I received my acupuncture certification. For the first 12 years in practice, I worked for a lot of different employers. I wasn’t sure where I wanted to settle down, so I moved around to experience different areas including Virginia, Austin, and Singapore. I eventually moved back home to be closer to family and friends in 2017. I worked for a couple employers until 2020, when the pandemic hit. Like it did for everyone, it made me re-evaluate my life and where did I want to go from there. I decided it was finally time to make the leap and open my own practice, which I did in the fall of 2021.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been a roller coaster ride! The first year was very scary, starting from the ground up again. I was not able to get any kind of business loan, so I used my own money, credit cards, and lines of credit to get the business going. I worked a part-time “work from home” job the first year while I had downtime at the office as I learned how to grow the practice. The hardest struggle was learning how to market my business and get it up and running on my own. All the hard work eventually paid off and towards the end of the first year, business started gaining traction, and people were finding us. The second year was much smoother than the first, and it has continued to grow from there.

We are a wellness clinic offering the following holistic services: massage, acupuncture, chiropractic, reiki, dry needling & infrared sauna. I am the chiropractor and acupuncturist, and I have 3 part-time individuals who offer massage, reiki, and dry needling. Patients love that they can come to one place and get multiple services. I’m proud of the calm, relaxing, and laid-back environment we’ve created here at our office. We’ve also made it easy with our online booking for patients to manage their schedule and when they come in for appointments.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I think the combination of good luck, hard work, an awesome support system, and networking with the local community has helped our business get to where it is today.
