Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Horning.
Hi Jordan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
My journey began with a strong passion for health and fitness, backed by my educational undergraduate and graduate achievements in Exercise Science (Northern Kentucky University) and Human Nutrition (University of Cincinnati). Although I acknowledge my imperfections, my explicit dedication to excellence for myself, my clients, and loved ones has been a driving force in my success.
My story is one of resilience, transformation, and a relentless pursuit of purposeful impact. My weight gain and body dysmorphia started in college. I was forced to sit out my second outdoor Track and Field season Sophomore year and didn’t get to compete again. During this tough time, I gained weight and was unwell. I reached my breaking point and decided to make a change. In the past five years, I’ve transformed a lot, and through various experiences, I learned more about who I am and what I’m capable of. This self-discovery gave me a strong belief in myself and keeps me moving forward with purpose.
I now face the future with authenticity, embracing the lessons from my past and the aspirations that fuel my steady pursuit of personal growth and meaningful impact. My commitment to making a positive difference in the world is both a personal calling and a shared responsibility, motivated by my late brother’s unfulfilled dreams.
My coaching philosophy centers on three core principles:
1. Perseverance: The commitment to pursuing success despite challenges or setbacks.
2. Discipline: Choosing to do what is necessary rather than what is simply desired.
3. Execution: Translating intentions into action through diligent effort.
Through these principles, I aim to guide others towards their own transformations, empowering them to overcome difficulties and embrace growth.
Central to my journey and coaching philosophy are my core values, which serve as guiding principles in every endeavor:
These values—Empower, Prepare, and Communicate—serve as the foundation upon which I’ve built my story and coaching philosophy. Through embodying these principles, I aspire to lead others towards self-discovery, growth, and lasting impact.
Our mission is to support and guide former athletes, individuals on a weight loss journey, and those seeking a healthier lifestyle to achieve their highest sense of self and well-being. Through personalized coaching, we aim to create happier and healthier individuals, nurturing their physical, mental, and emotional growth.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Personal: My journey hit a rough patch during my sophomore year in college when a back injury ended my athletic aspirations. This triggered a struggle within me. Coping with this physical setback led to unhealthy habits and weight gain. This challenging phase brought about a year of loneliness, purposelessness, low self-esteem, overeating, depression, isolation, and anxiety. Despite trying numerous treatments for my chronic back pain, I realized that it might persist, pushing me to take action. At a breaking point, I shifted my mindset, focusing on “something instead of nothing” and letting go of my “all-or-nothing” thinking.
Business:
My initial years in business required constant adjustments. While I had a clear vision, life often threw curveballs. Some plans succeeded, while others failed, leaving me to adapt and find alternative solutions daily. I’ve always had a passion for health and fitness, but running a small business comes with unexpected challenges along the way. Wearing multiple hats and managing various aspects was a learning curve. One of my significant challenges is balancing my drive for excellence with practicality. Learning to leave tasks for the next day and prioritize effectively has been vital. Time management and creating efficient schedules have helped me lower stress and maintain high energy levels.
As you know, we’re big fans of J René Reliance LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
J René Reliance is a comprehensive health and fitness company with a distinct focus on remote services. Through my proprietary JRR App, I provide clients with tailored workout routines, meal plans, and habits on a weekly basis. My approach encourages self-reliance, where clients execute their tasks with my unwavering support and motivation throughout the week. This independence culminates in a weekend reflection using my App, helping them assess their progress over the past week.
Come Monday morning, I engage with clients via voice memos, providing personalized feedback, additional insights, and suggestions for the upcoming week. This collaborative process ensures that each week’s programming aligns with their unique pace and comfort level, fostering steady progress.
I specialize in 1:1 personal training, nutrition coaching, and holistic wellness/lifestyle coaching. For local Cincinnati athletes, I also offer in-person sports performance training. In terms of weight management, I’ve designed two budget-friendly, no-commitment options for less than $90 a month. “Levels 4 Loss” is a program centered around habit formation, targeting four key levels to master for sustainable weight loss. “Athletes 4 Life” emphasizes fitness, featuring a dozen new workouts monthly, along with various supplemental tools and resources.
However, my offerings extend beyond these packages. I’ve curated cost-effective solutions for those seeking quick resources or guidance, like a monthly recipe guide, 1:1 Zoom meetings, personalized workout plans, and staple meal prescriptions. Each option is thoughtfully designed to empower individuals on their health journeys with no commitment.
What sets me apart is the fusion of personalized support and accessible pricing. Clients receive comprehensive plans that cater to their unique needs, with a range of investment options. I’m particularly proud of the versatility I offer—tailoring solutions to accommodate diverse preferences and lifestyles. Through my brand, I aspire to inspire lasting transformations and make health and fitness attainable for everyone.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t put my faith in luck alone. There’s a quote I came across some years ago that’s stuck with me: “Luck is when preparation meets opportunity.” This principle deeply resonates with me. I firmly believe that the energy you emit into the universe finds its way back to you, and it does so when the timing is perfect. Although this ‘perfect timing’ may not always align with our immediate wishes, it aligns with a higher plan, something I attribute to a greater force or destiny.
Resisting what’s meant to unfold can often be the root of what we deem as ‘bad luck’. It’s a gentle nudge to remind us that sometimes we need to take a different path or practice patience.
Reflecting on my journey, I can genuinely affirm that I’ve never let an opportunity to grow—both personally and for my business—slip by since establishing JRR in 2021. Countless instances for leadership, learning, and sharing my knowledge have come my way, and I’ve embraced them wholeheartedly. Most importantly, these opportunities seemed to align with my readiness and the right moment.
