Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe Vires.
Hi Joe, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
Wendigo Woodworking is a collaboration. I have always pushed to put all of myself in the works that I do so that people can enjoy what I make as much as I enjoy creating it. All it took was a spark, and between my good friend Zac, my girlfriend JoVonne, and myself, we are able to create the works of art that we offer today.
I’ve always liked to keep myself busy, moving forward, and growing. Bettering myself and my work as I go.
JoVonne has a background in art and design, being accepted into SCPA and carrying it through her college career.
Zac has a background in engineering and design. He works our most intricate piece of machinery, the CNC.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
With us being 100% self-taught, learning the tricks of the trade through trial and error came slow. We since turned to social media to document our processes and progress. Through that, we had an overwhelming amount of support from people in love with our works looking to learn and share experience to the most experienced professionals we have been fortunate enough to get to know.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We work with different kinds of woods, ranging from locally sourced varieties to exotic varieties imported from turkey. Together, with epoxy, we are able to create one-of-a-kind serving trays, tasting flights for wine, beer, and bourbon, wine caddies, charcuterie boards, tables, decorative hangings and items, bottle openers, personalized trays, and so much more.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was very quiet and reserved. I always had a difficult time opening up to people, but our work acts as a catalyst for our networking and time spent at events and fairs.
