Rising Stars: Meet Patricia Jensen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patricia Jensen.

Patricia Jensen

Hi Patricia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been a maker for many years! I started with seamstress work back in 2008, when my youngest was born, making children’s clothing and toys. The market lacked cute punk-style clothing, so I began making fun punk-style clothing and began my business baby chunk punk. As my kids grew older, I shifted to doing seamstress work for a local shop that specialized in black light reactive clothing, BL Visuals. Soon after I started working as a full-time bulb glazer for a local art tile company Motawi Tileworks. When my youngest was born in 2021, I made the decision to shift into part-time work but wanted to continue to create and grow as an artist. My husband runs the makers lab at a local library, and we both enjoyed working with the library’s laser cutter. It felt like a great opportunity for us to work together and create what is now WonderFool Art & Designs. He taught me how to use the machine, and over the last year and a half, I’ve been able to incorporate my own personal style into our projects. I now use multiple mediums and create pretty much whatever I feel inspired by that day.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Learning the programming and machine were quite tricky in the beginning, and I still have days where it seems I can’t quite get it right, but it’s been really fun to compare my first piece to the pieces I make today!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I make mostly jewelry; I specialize in foraged plants and flowers. My most popular pieces are my terrarium earrings & necklaces. Each piece is unique, and no two are ever alike, which I think makes them special.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk-taking.
This is more of a hobby for me than a job so there’s really very little risk involved. We did purchase our own machine, so there is a bit of pressure there to do my best to keep creating products people want to purchase, but I still don’t think I’d label it as risky!
