Community Highlights: Meet Jordan Thorne of Thorne Aesthetics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Thorne.

Jordan Thorne

Hi Jordan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello, my name is Jordan and I’m the owner of Thorne Aesthetics. I suppose you can say the passion and desire to start my own business started at the age of 19. I moved down to Florida, where my father was living at the time. I watched him start up a business delivering subpoenas. I knew at that very moment that I wanted to be an entrepreneur. Unfortunately, his partner stole all the money out of our business account leaving us with only the spare change underneath our couch cushions. Luckily, the owners of the house we were staying at let us pay in labor, or else we would have been homeless as well. Even during that low moment, I understood how important it was to chase your dream and put yourself out there even though it might not always work out. This was a prime example of that. Regardless of the ups and downs, one thing has always stayed the same. Our tenacity to never give up. Those values defined me as a person, and I believe that’s the reason I’m standing here today.

I moved back to Ohio, and I finally found my calling to become an aesthetician.

Every day I drove to school, I tried to speak into existence the following: I was going to graduate, work for a plastic surgeon’s office and then start my own business.

After graduating from Brown Aveda, all I had was a piece of paper and a dream. The likelihood of being accepted into a plastic surgeon’s office right out of school is slim to none, but I knew if I didn’t at least try, I was going to regret it.

I took my chances and applied to one of the top-rated plastic surgeons in the greater Cleveland area, Dr. Steven Goldman. I was so scared for my interview. I actually can recall my father driving me there and physically kicking me out of the car, but lo and behold, I ended up getting the job of my dreams.

Working there for over 5 years was an incredible experience, but even then, I wondered, what if? What if I started my own business?

I knew it was time. If I didn’t do it now, then it would never happen because I was so comfortable. When you make yourself uncomfortable by taking a chance, that means you’re pushing your limits and growing as a person. That’s one of the best things we can all do every day. I just celebrated my one-year anniversary of successfully running my business, and I couldn’t be more fulfilled.

I want to thank my mother for supporting and teaching me how to be strong and independent woman. I’d like to thank my father, sister, and husband for always believing in me and supporting me by being my number one fan. None of this would exist if it wasn’t for all of you because I wouldn’t be who I am without you.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Fortunately, things have been smooth for the most part. The startup was hard because I didn’t know anything about running a business. I just knew I had treatments I wanted to provide for my clients. I think sometimes you just got to jump in and get the experience and see if you can balance it. Every day you are learning and growing as an owner. I can honestly say that all the work that’s involved makes me appreciate all the small businesses out there! I wouldn’t change anything. Best decision I’ve ever made.

As you know, we’re big fans of Thorne Aesthetics. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
I have been an aesthetician for 7 years now. I specialize in more advanced skin care treatments, including becoming an acne expert to help my clients control their acne. I am very excited to announce that I have a partner with a physician and will be offering microneedling treatments to help with fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, stretch marks, and much more.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
My work makes me happy! I love making a difference in someone’s life. One of the most rewarding treatments I offer is microblading, which is a semi-permanent tattoo. Clients who have gone through cancer treatments or who can no longer grow hair can get microblading. I love my client’s reactions after our treatments. I’m lucky to have a career that makes people feel confident and beautiful.
