Inspiring Conversations with Brynne Moody of A Bryte Idea

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brynne Moody.

Brynne Moody

Hi Brynne, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in a middle-class family with 5 siblings in Berea, OH. Both of my parents were creative and would come up with creative ways to keep all of us kids entertained. We would do crafts, skits, and make-up crazy games. We also just had limited resources when it came to having extra money, so we kids would have to be creative as well.

For most of my career, I have been in medical and pharmaceutical sales, and I have enjoyed it. But I have always had a passion for innovation and creativity, and pharmaceutical sales is never going to fulfill that passion.

Throughout my life, I’ve always thought, “If they made it this way, it would be better,” or “You know what I need here?”

In my mid-20s, I started coming up with invention ideas for new products, and 6 years ago, I decided to finally act on one of them. That is how the Caselet began. I was always losing my phone or didn’t have a pocket to put it in when I was carrying so many things at once, and I thought, “I wish I could just strap my phone to my arm when I need a free hand.”

The options on the market were bulky or looked boring, and I wanted a solution I could wear with any outfit. So, the creation for the Caselet began. Part of the reason it took me 6 years was because I had no idea how to manufacture anything out of plastic, and I needed to learn everything. Patents, trademarks, packaging, and retail were all a challenge, but here I am 6 years later, and I can say I did it! I landed a national deal with the biggest retailer in the country, Walmart!

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Ha! It has been the farthest thing from a smooth road to get here, but that is how the entrepreneurial road goes. My patent attorney would always say, “Hey, if it was easy, everyone would do it.” So, I kept pushing. I had to learn the manufacturing process for plastic, from CAD design to mold creation and materials. I would call manufacturing facilities in my area and ask them to give me a tour and teach me the process. I had to figure out trademarks and patents, which is another world in itself. I had 2 potential investors back out, and I only made it to my Walmart meeting in Arkansas with hours to spare before it started at 8 am. I was running on adrenaline.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I founded my company 8 years ago while working a demanding full-time job with a dream that I can someday work for myself. I invent everyday products that make lives easier and more fun.

I am known for my brand, the Caselet, which just launched on Walmart.com and in select stores around the country. The Caselet is the first fashionable hands-free cell phone case designed for women on the go. We always have our phone on us but so often don’t have a pocket to put it in. We misplace it, drop it, or just need a free hand to carry something.

When you need a free hand, you snap the Caselet bracelet that you are wearing into the back of your phone case that has a clip on it that secures the bracelet into the back of the case. Slip the phone on your forearm, and boom, you are good to go hands-free!

You can snag it on Walmart.com or in select Walmart stores around the country for $19.99! Bracelets are sold separately.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Definitely being able to communicate and talk to others. I have learned everything I need to know by asking questions, but that can be intimidating to some. I think people generally want to help others; you just have to ask.
