Rising Stars: Meet Dread Headd

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dread Headd. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Dread Headd started creating music as a stress reliever; going through hard times and struggles, music was her therapy. She started taking music seriously as a career in 2019 after making a freestyle to a G Herbo instrumental. She did the freestyle on Facebook Live, and her friends & associates suggested that she release the song. That motivated her to create the album “Destined” & include the freestyle in the album.

Dread Headd makes hardcore songs that she created due to her pain and anger. She also makes heartfelt and relatable songs, the type of music that will put you in an emotional state. If you love Hip-Hop and Rap, then you would most likely love Dread Headd!

“Destined” is Dread Headd’s first album, released on October 14, 2019. She started going to the studio back-to-back releasing singles, such as “Dread Headd – No Capp,” the EP “LLMBF,” “Dread Headd – Miss My Dawg,” “Dread Headd – Slide,” and more! She is currently working on her second album, “Destined 2 Be Great.”

Dread Headd has a very unique and different sound, one that isn’t comparable. Some artists have a soundalike, meaning they sound like a specific artist. Dread Headd’s style and voice stand out, making you want to listen to more of her music. Her biggest influence is Chief Keef, she grew up listening to all of his music, and he is the only rapper she would go see at a concert.

Destiny C. Cunningham, better known as Dread Headd, was born on November 3, 1999, in Cincinnati, Ohio. As a kid, she grew up playing a lot of sports, but her passion was basketball. She received a basketball scholarship to Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland, Ohio. A couple of months later she dropped out due to her injuries from high school. Shortly after that, she started her music career. Since a kid, she has always been a hustler, always finding ways to make some money. Very dedicated and self-driven, but some incidents led her to the streets. The year 2020 is when everything fell apart in her life. Dread Headd deals with PTSD, depression, and anxiety. At the time, she was dealing with pills to cope with her pain, which made everything worse. That resulted in her getting locked up, almost losing her life, malnourished her body, and losing her hair. Losing her best friend was her motivation to never give up and to get her life together. The majority of Dread Headd’s songs came from her past struggles & pain, and that made her the person she is today.

Her goal is to help other people dealing with PTSD, depression, anxiety, and struggles in their life. She wants to motivate other people, especially artists, to never give up on their dreams and to remain positive during hard times. She also wants to motivate people to believe in themselves because anything is possible with God and dedication.
