Conversations with Eric Pedigo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Pedigo.

Hi Eric, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I have been singing and playing music for most of my life, starting at 8. I grew up listening to FM radio and watching MTV music videos. I begged my parents for a guitar, and though they could not afford it at the time, they supported me. That meant under no circumstances could I ever quit. As I stumbled through guitar lessons, it all finally clicked when I could play songs that I heard on contemporary Christian and Pop radio. I soon started mimicking the songs I heard and tried creating some of my own. In my adolescence, I performed in musicals and talent shows throughout the Midwest. I moved to Indianapolis from a small town in 2012 to start my adult life and find my place as a musician and artist. I have had the pleasure of working with some of the Midwest’s finest musicians as well as opening for American Idol winners Phillip Phillips (’18) and Lee Dwyze (’17). I have released 4 solo works since 2013, totaling 12 songs, including my latest Single, “Less of Me” released in July 2022.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road, but it has been an adventure. When I started on this path, I thought stardom was right around the corner. I believed in my songs and my stories, but I soon found out that I was a small fish in very large and saturated waters. The biggest obstacles I have faced have been mental and emotional. I have had to face the deepest darkest parts of myself to rediscover the “why” behind my journey as songwriter. I need a sense purpose in my life, and I have found that purpose is to help provide relief from emotional suffering through music. This, in turn, creates meaning in my own suffering and provides me with relief as well.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an acoustic-based folk/pop singer-songwriter. I have been known for smooth, soothing vocals, with catchy melodic hooks. I am proud of the experiences I have had meeting people from all walks of life and working with some of the industry’s prominent artists. However, I am most proud of my own development mentally and emotionally, learning that fame and fortune are not answer to suffering. The answer is in the deep connections we make with people and learning we are not alone in our struggles.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Some of my favorite books have been:

“The Seat Of The Soul” by Gary Zucav. I love his perspective on authentic empowerment and reverence for life.

“Becoming Nobody” by Ram Dass. I love his perspective on relief from personal emotional suffering.

“You Can Be Perfect Or You Can Be Happy” by Karith Foster. I love her perspective on the poisonous pursuit of perfectionism and being kind toward yourself.

My favorite app has been Headspace. It is a mindfulness meditation app that has been transformative in my life in terms of raised awareness, being fully present, and relieving anxiety.

My favorite podcast has been Jay Shetty Podcast. He is a former monk who discusses topics of motivation, wisdom, and love.
