Today we’d like to introduce you to Greg Eley.
Greg, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my business in May of 2005 as a part-time job to earn extra money. I had detailed my grandpa’s car. The next day I did my neighbor’s truck. My name started to catch wind with others around the community. So, GE Auto Detailing was born. Fast forward to November 2020. I was let go from my job due to covid. My wife and I had a new baby that was born in June that year. After we talked it over, we decided it was now or never that I take the business full time in order to support our family. I never looked back after that as my business that was a part-time gig, and a dream turned into my reality!
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been smooth. I was faced a couple of slow months that affected cash flow. However, this was a very minute issue in the grand scheme of being full-time in the business. I have also struggled to find good, reliable help. This places the burden of running the business as well as doing the work on myself. This has equated to many early mornings and late nights.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business.
GE Auto Detailing is a full-service automotive detailing shop. I have taken the time to get many certifications, including being an International Detailing associated (IDA) certified detailer, skills validated & motorcycle certified. Not only do we offer the standard detail, we do high-end ceramic coatings (powered by IGL Coatings), window tint, paint protection film (ppf), under coatings, spray-in bed liners, industrial ceramic coatings, and paint chip repair. I also offer a full line of accessories and perform the installation as well. What sets me apart from my competition is the level of quality and customer service. I always go the extra mile to take care of my customers. I use high-end products to ensure I can offer this level of service. I would put the work that comes out of my shop against any shop out there. I’m also really proud to be an IGL Coatings installer. Their support is second to none. They have allowed me to take my business to new heights. I’m extremely pleased with the results of their ceramic coatings and the performance that they offer to my customers.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
First and foremost, my wife, Megan. She has supported me since day one. Without her encouragement, I wouldn’t be where I’m at today. Not many people believed I could do this full-time. This job was always looked at as a side job or play money by people around me. When it was a matter of our family on the line, Megan trusted me to make the right decision with my business. She knew I wouldn’t quit until I could prove others wrong. Early on, she would help with some of the detail work. Now, she helps out a lot on the back end for me to ease some of the burden. I also have to give credit to my dad. He has always been around helping out with detail on a part-time basis when he is able to. Though he is retired, he volunteers his time to help ease some of the stress.
