Today we’d like to introduce you to Ember Burns.
Hi Ember, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raised here in Cleveland, Ohio, with a very different dream than I have now. I wanted to follow in my family’s footsteps and become the 1st women to join the military. Bad knees said sorry you have to pick a different career path. I had no idea where to go from there and was lost for a handful of years. I spent almost 10 years moving around to different states, learning about different places. In that time, I found a love for event planning of any kind. And started to work towards owning my own event planning company, All Events. It has taken me many years plus the shutdown of Covid to really get it off the ground, but this year changed things for me. Everyone wants someone else to plan something for them now.
I moved back to Ohio in the late summer of 2013; this September will mark 10 years since I have come home. And it has been a wild 10 years! I was working at a store manager for Dollar tree, When I became very ill, and ended up having to leave that job behind for something less active, I ended up working for cricket the cell phone provider. That year Cricket was doing a summer concert around the United States and needed stores in the areas to promote. So, I was sent off to a radio station to promote the event. Which led to the host of the radio station asking me to come on and work for them.
My Job at Hot Mess in the Morning was to find people to interview and different things from our community to talk about on air. Somehow that brought to Roger Conners Instagram. Roger Conners is a talented Director and Actor from the Cleveland area. Through him, I networked and met some people. I ended up being an extra in one of his films which opened the door to so much more.
Since 2015 When I started working in the film industry, I have now been in over 80 projects. I am an award-winning actress and an over 50 times published Model. I have started to write and produce my own short films also. I have written articles on how to model and build ideas. I have no schooling for any of this. I just learned from watching and doing. Google and youtube are some of the best things we have at our fingers tips. The chance to learn about anything we want. That is what I did, and it has brought me to where I am now. I grew up with very different dreams than the path I am on now. I would not change anything. I create things that inspire others. Art has saved many lives, including my own. I guess the biggest take away from my life story is that you can make all the plans for your life to go on way, but something can throw a bump in your way to make you choose another path. We do not know what tomorrow brings but we do have today to leave a mark.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it has not been. In 2014 I had an Ectopic pregnancy that burst. Worst pain of my life. I was gone for 1 minute and 8 seconds before they were able to restart my heart. I am not a religious person at all, but I will say when I came back, I was reborn. Given a 2nd chance to restart my life. It was hard to leave a job I was good at to start over with no idea of what was next.
It is very true as an artist you struggle to find your next meal, but when you do it is worth it. I have many projects that failed and left me with nothing other than experience. But in ever failure there is always a lesson learned.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Let me take a deep breath for this one I am a model who is over 50 times published. I have done everything from fully nude to high fashion. My proudest accomplishment to date is being published in Dark Beauty Magazine. In the modeling world, I also help other models build concepts, pose and etc. I have written a Modeling 101 column for Midwest Beauty Magazine. I have hosted group shoots for models and photographers to network, and I also wear the photographer hat.
I started acting in 2015 with zero experience and have now been in over 80 different projects, including music videos, shorts, indie features, and Hollywood films. I also love working behind the camera also. I have done just about everything on set besides lighting. In 2017 I decided to take a chance to bring some of my own scripts to life and started out with two PSAs. Don’t text and drive Elizabeth’s story and don’t drink and Drive Brads Story. In 2019 with the help of Chad Nelson Knauer, I brought my 1st horror film to life, The Motel. All three are free on youtube to watch. And now in 2023, I am working very closely with Adam Michels to bring our drama No Loose Ends to the big screen.
I also have an event planning degree, I used that to start working at the Odeon under Chris Stark in Cleveland Ohio. He taught me how to plan a successful event from start to finish. He really opened the door for me to start working with other venues and clients. Will always be forever grateful to him. From there I have taken on everything from kids’ birthdays’ full weddings and charity events. My favorite event I host each year is a Charity Zombie Walk at the hi and dry in Tremont Ohio. We get all zombied up to walk the streets in hopes to raise money and donations for the local APL.
I am proud of everything I have done just due to the fact I never thought I would be where I am today with my career.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
Cleveland is the land of everything and everyone. You can learn so much about different cultures here, it is amazing. The arts community is so full here also. There is always something going on that will inspire you.
