Today we’d like to introduce you to Mackenzie Appell.
Hi Mackenzie, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always loved being creative. Whether it be painting or crocheting, I always had some sort of project I was working on. When I started playing around with making bracelets, I thought it would be just another fun hobby, but when my friends and family started requesting I make some for them, I realized I could turn a hobby into a business. With a big push from my support system, I decided to take the leap in November of 2021. I never expected it to take off like it did! I love working with my customers to make their visions come to life. Today my business is a combination of doing markets and events, being in storefronts, and creating custom orders.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Overall, it has been a smooth and fun road for me. I am a stay-at-home mom of a two-year-old with another on the way, so sometimes life can get hectic when I’m super busy or have a lot of orders. My husband and family are extremely supportive of me and definitely help things run smoothly with both our home and my business.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My business started with making personalized name bracelets. A customer will usually need help “building their stack”. We start by deciding what colors, what types of beads, how many bracelets, and of course, the names or words they want. I like to have them look through my social media for ideas and suggestions of what they like. I then go on to create the stack and send a picture to them when I’m finished. We can then tweak anything they want to change. It can become a bit of a long process with lots of questions, but it ensures the customer gets exactly what they want! Keeping the customer involved in the process from start to finish is what sets me apart from others.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I do a lot of markets and pop-up events. This is a great way to come out and show your support. It’s also a great way to see the quality of my products in person, try them on, or even create your own stack with my help. Another great way to support my business is through social media. Liking, sharing, and commenting on my posts ensures more people see my products!
