Exploring Life & Business with Tanya Kaiser of Kaiser Gallery

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanya Kaiser. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Kaiser Gallery is a contemporary gallery and cocktail lounge located in the heart of Tremont. In this format, we combine our dedication to the visual arts with libations to create a unique atmosphere that can readily bring art to new audiences while still serving our artists in their artistic endeavors. Kaiser Gallery opened in December 2020. Owner and artist Tanya Kaiser earned her MFA in visual arts from Stony Brook University and shares her vision of providing art accessibility for all populations. Public programming offers opportunities for thoughtful community engagement.

We at Kaiser Gallery believe that art should be accessible to everyone, and we strive to create an inclusive environment where everyone can feel welcome. Whether you’re browsing our latest exhibition, enjoying a drink at our cocktail lounge, or taking part in one of our many events, we hope that you’ll find Kaiser Gallery to be a space where you can recharge your creative soul. We’re passionate about art and dedicated to our artists, and we can’t wait to share our love of the arts with you.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Kaiser Gallery was an act of bravery. Born during the 2020 pandemic, among riots and fear, opening an art gallery that was socially conscious and community-centric seemed like a necessity. We weathered the following months and fully embraced the era of uncertainty to come through to the other side.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business.
This dynamic two-year-old gallery in Tremont has become the go-to gathering place for events of all kinds. Not only is it a great spot to take in art, but its unique feature – an onsite cocktail bar – makes this gallery one of a kind! Owner Tanya Kaiser is not only passionate about showcasing beautiful artwork, she also invites conversations surrounding timely topics through thought-provoking exhibitions and programming.

Kaiser Gallery’s artistic proclivities also extend themself to their cocktail bar. Providing an immersive experience with thoughtfully crafted cocktails that are planned around exhibiting art. Offering guests another avenue to explore while viewing art on display. The cocktail bar also helps supports the gallery, providing free exhibition opportunities for artists.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was a true nomad – in my first five years of life alone, I lived on an army base overseas and had already experienced more than most could imagine. My mother kept us connected to our Puerto Rican heritage. My father, who worked as an illustrator in the military, provided artful influences everywhere; it truly became part of not only our lifestyle but also part of me. I was always creating something and could be left alone to entertain myself all day with the simplest of supplies. I would sew, draw, paint, and create makeshift sculptures. I am happiest when creating.
